  • Raised bed success

We did it! The first raised bed built today and in situ. I admit its not rocket science but I am so chuffed. Took a while cos Mr H forgot to charge the drill last night, numpty! Did loads of other stuff, dug a bean trench, added muck and compost to potato bed. Mr H re did the archway cos he said I had put it up wonky . My back hurts now but happy

    Heres a pic

Looks great, I`m putting in raised beds this year, but haven`t started yet as It`s too wet. What wood did you use? We were thinking of using bricks as we have a few thousand in piles in the garden.

Thanks, I just asked as they looked a lot deeper than mine!

We made ours from scaffold boards.

Just had a bath and I still ache
It is just softwood planks. Mr H came home and said he could get them from work for about a quid a plank!! I nearly had his arm off for them
                .
They will need replacing far sooner than scaffold boards but hey at that price I dont mind. We have more to make to put on existing beds but no real rush for them cos the beds are there and I can grow stuff.......

Get some of that green or blue water based wood stain on it to protect and enhance it!

We lined the inside of ours with some membrane to extend its expectancy. Its nice to feel tired from hard graft innit, especially this time of year.

Well done you - it looks fab. I started my bean trench today, and collected a load of big fat worms for the Chooks in the process. They went mental for them!

It's so good to get out and DO something!

They look fab, we have put raised beds on our plot and we painted them blue, caused a bit of a stir i can tell you, now people refer to us as the ones with the blue beds!
