  • Picture uploading help please?

TS and Piskie gave me some simple instructions as to how to upload pix, unfortunately they dont work for me as I am even simpler than the instructions.

I have taken a pic that I want to upload, its saved as a .bmp file. When I try and upload it the box thingy said it was too big, so, staggeringly I managed to make it smaller. This was big in physical picture size.
Tried to upload it, now it says that there are too many kb's.

    How can I upload it?

God I hate computers so much!

Want to email it to me bob and I'll change it for ya?

.bmp files tend to be a bit large.

Presumably you used a bit of software to make it smaller?

As HW says bmp's do tend to be a bit big, If what ever software you used has a "Save As" function (probably on the "File" menu), then try saving it as a jpg, that should help.

Headfry, if the pic is in an e-mail you will first need to save it as a separate file to your hard drive. Assuming you're using Outlook Express, open the e-mail, then click on the "File" menu in the top left hand corner, then select "Save Attachments", that should then allow you to save the pic to somewhere on your hard drive.

Once you've done that we can go thru uiploading it to the Vine

I used to be able to post piccies and then the size was reduced on the Vine- and I couldn't get my head around the resizing instructions... so Headfry- you're not the only one having probs.
Picasa saves mine as 3456 x 2592 which I know is too big

spill the beans Bob- what did you do- or did you just fiddle and do it , and now can't remember what you did???

I have recently noticed that the vine automatically adjusts the size of jpg's when you upload them.

The current restrictions on the size of .jpg's uploaded to the Vine is 97.7kb. If the file is bigger and you do manage to upload it then it will be automatically reduced. The only problem is that if you try to upload a big file the upload process may timeout before it completes.

For anyone that's curious as to why it's 97.7kb, my guess would be they set the limit at 100,000bytes and of course there are 1024bytes to a kb

100,000 / 1024 = 97.7 (when you round it to one decimal place)

Poisonally I find it easier to upload my photos to something like photobucket, or flickr and then create a link.

Once the photos are uploaded onto the hosting site you can use them elsewhere too rather than having to upload every time.

                        There's also no restriction on size - file or physical, so if what you want to show is detailed, it's easy for peoples to see;
