  • Photocard Drivers license

Has anyone discovered that theirs is out of date!!

I'm off on holiday in 12 days and discovered this morning that mine ran out in 2010, oops.

I've spoken to both DVLA and the holiday car rental company, the first was very helpful the latter not so much so.

This afternoon I visited a booth at the post office where the can directly send stuff to the DVLA. I'm now hoping that it doesn't take the 15 working days they recommend it should to come back to me.

For those of you that haven't checked and I'm sure I can't be the only one here, they only last 10 years, and if you move you must remember to update your license not say I'll get around to it....or you might find yourself where I am at the moment. Knee deep in it again.

Didn't you mention this a while ago?

I'm pretty certain it was covered on here before, and I was certain it was you...

That said, I'm getting old, and infirm.

I probably did and got everything ready and forgot all about it. If its not pressing I have a habit of sitting on it.

You could say I am one of those types that does everything last minute, I like to plan well in advance but only do it when its necessary.

I seem to remember it being in relation to a traffic incident....

I could of course be way off.

I can remember saying that I was hanging on to my old green one for as long as possible and receiving the usual load of insults!

Can't find it HW, but then I've only got 20 pages of comments, and I know I've said a lot more drivel than that.

Me and Mr OWG got reminders for ours (this year) as it's been 10 years since we got the photocard ones (address change, and a name change for me)...

We both kept our old pink ones as they do indeed only last 10 years. Came in handy as my husband is allowed to drive a mini bus on his old licence. Still went through the rigmarole of passing his motor bike test recently instead of driving a little moped.

Unfortunately, when you move house you have no choice but to get a new photo licence. And you also have to carry the paper counterpart with you if it is to be valid. Add to that all the loyalty and membership cards and no wonder my wallet is bulging - pity its not full of money as well.

The DVLA when I spoke to them said not a problem send it off to us after you come back from holiday and we'll update it then. The car company said if the photo id isn't upto date you can't hire a car.

                        Its still me....

"The expiry date of the licence can be found on the front of the licence... you will receive a reminder from DVLA two months before the expiry date of the licence.
The problem is for those who have not notified DVLA of a change of personal details such as change of address."

This is one of the reasons I've never got one of the new ones, nothing wrong with my old one although people do keep telling me it's illegal even though it'll last until I'm 70 without any renewing as I've no intention of moving house

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I just had to renew mine a couple of weeks ago, I don't mind having to update it but charging me £20.00 for the privilege was annoying.

Hopefully you will receive your new one as quickly as I did, less than a week from sending it back to the new one landing on my door mat.
