  • patchwork/quilting/sewing....

As mentioned (in that other thread) I am making lots of handmade pressies for um that date at the back end of the year. I have discovered the delights of patchwork quilting - can't say i'm an expert but have produced some cool cushions and a quilt(selfishly for us in the caravan) I'm in the process of making one for my mum for x***

just wondered what everyone else makes out there for homemade gifts?

P.S I also make hampers up with preserves

I did hampers one year, about ten years ago. I made loads of things, jams, pickles, potted stilton, pate, savoury nuts and seeds, and put them in pretty vintage pots and jars. I bought beautiful vintage baskets and lined them with reversible linings with side pockets - took ages and I loved it. Everyone was thrilled except my MinL, who said "Couldn't you afford to buy a proper present?" I haven't bought anything for them since......!

When I did some costing, each hamper cost well over £100.......

My mother quilts table mats for her friends and C*******s themed table runners. I make jewellery, Shambala style bracelets, earrings, necklaces, that sort of thing. I also make a lot of my own beads and pendants out of Polymer clay (Fimo).
I always make my own C*******s cards and I, like you, am quilting some bedding for our camper at the moment.
Tons of other stuff but I'd be here all day if I listed it all!

My Mother always said that she preffered presents we (my skinny blister and I) had made, rather than ones we had bought. Well, money was tight so it helped.

        Cheers, Tony.

My OH made family trees out of left over fabric last year for parents, inlaws, one of our neighbours, and out child minder, they were very much appreciated. I'll have to see if I can find a picture and load it up.
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

Just bought the fabric to make a quilt for one of my nephews first baby due in October. It's going to be a great big elephant in the middle and borders. Patchwork is seriously addictive!

I like to keep rags, you never know when you'll need a rag for wiping your hands or wiping anything really, kneeling on, washing the car. They come in very handy, all sorts work well cotton are handy, but I'm not adversed to a bit of lycra thrown in, linen is ok, but I'm not keen on polyester at all, it makes my hands crawl.

Ahh, the joys of collecting old pants,........I mean rags.

HAHA,i was collecting fabrics, long before seeds, cottons, buttons, lace strips, zips, and so on,and yarn on cones, when ever i went ino the market the fabric was soooo cheap,so collection began,it's so hany having your own stores, since i had the lottie,i hav'nt had the inclination to do things for me,but if others want help,is no bother, and quilting have never done it,but seen what lovely things, others have done, you need a lot of patients,

Mikey, know what you mean, all things are recycled here,a quick run of the shears and of to the garage ,

With you there, Mrs W - charity shop curtains are a particular weakness of mine - as long as they are cotton they will always come in as quilt backings if nothing else.
