partial eclipse today

    partial eclipse today

    today there is a partial eclipse of the sun, gets better the further north you are but should be visible across the country.

    remember don't look directly at it, use a pinhole camera etc

      Yeah but. What if you only just found out about the eclipse, realised that it was happening RIGHT AT THAT MOMENT; didn't have special glasses/pinhole comera (or indeed didn't really know what one is); went outside and despite everything you knew, and being an otherwise fairly sensible person, you just stared directly at the sun and now your eyes are all achey with horrible afterburn in your vision? And obviously you couldn't see a thing. Then what? I mean, if someone is going to be that stupid, they don't deserve help, do they?

      Just off to rest my poor eyes.

          And what would be even more stupid would be for someone to read your post & go outside just to have a really quick peek!!

                      Just as long as you know you'll only be able to see out of the other eye for the next hour or so!

                          InterWeb was down this morning because "router killed by lightning strike" Blast! Would have been fun for the kids to see.

                          Easiest way to make a pin hole camera is to use binoculars held in front of a white sheet of paper. A bit of "angling-about" to get them lined up with the sun, and moving paper towards-away-from the paper, and Bob's your uncle.

                          Try not to set fire to the paper!

                              There is a partial lunar eclipse on August 16th starting at 2035. It's bound to be cloudy though
