  • Parsnips

    Hi

Not sure what all the talk about Parsnips recently was all about but here's a poem I found about them. Enjoy

    PARSNIPS

    Despite the similarity
    And vague familiarity
    The startling reality
    A CARROT THIS IS NOT

Its look is bland and creamier
    Its nutty taste extremier
    Some large and quite supremier
THIS ROOT, IT HITS THE SPOT

So now I have you wondering
    And clamouring and blundering
    "What vegetable?" You're thundering
    A PARSNIP WE HAVE GOT

    Eat parsnips all parsnipitty
In stews you'll shout out, "Yippity!"
    A flavour deep and drippity
    PUT PARSNIPS IN YOUR POT
    Forbidden Fruits make many Jams.

The poet is a lady called Judith Natelli McLaughlin - she writes healthy eating type poems to encourage the kids. And grapes.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Thanks Jeanied - didn't know who'd written it. I'd have given them a try anyway after reading the poem if I didn't already LOVE growing and eating them

Poems on Fruits & Odes to Veggies

                      Hi All

I am Judith Natelli McLaughlin. How fun to see my poetry spread to Europe! I hail from New Jersey, USA.

I love seeing you all enjoy my Parsnip poem. It is from my book Poems on Fruits & Odes to Veggies - Where Healthy Eating Starts With a Poem. You can even check out my website at Judith Natelli McLaughlin

                      And yes, I LOVE grapes...

                      Popagrape

                      Popagrape is not a fad
                      Popagrape is not a dad
                      Popagrape is what you do
With juicy red and green grapes too!

I wrote & illustrated this book as a way to introduce kids to these healthy food choices. Love your interest! THANKS.

Hi Judith and welcome to this site (the grapevine - we call ourselves grapes!).
How nice of you to reply and what a surprise to realise just how many people worldwide must read our comments.

Keep on with the writing - your poems are such FUN so I do hope that they encourage loads of kids (and adults) to eat more fruit and veg.

                            Poems & Odes

                            Hi Grapes

Thanks for the warm welcome! I love surfing the site. FYI for the first time ever I am going to try to grow zucchini in my own yard. (my yard is really small) But zucchini is my youngest daughter's favorite veg and I think it will be really fun for us to watch our plants grow. To date I only grow herbs and patio tomatoes. Anyway, I will keep on writing. Give me a shout out if you are ever looking for a poem on a particular fruit or veg. I would love to oblige.
