Default organic compost

I thought I'd be really good and follow the way to go and buy organic grow bags and I've used the soil for all sorts of potting. But it has attracted numerous flies into the greenhouse and is quite smelly!!They are even gathering around pots in the garden where I've used it,Is this to be expected and do I now have to buy something to get rid of the flies as it's not very nice being in the greenhouse?Didn't really want to kill things in the sake of being organic, sort of seems wrong.Hints and help appreciated

Sounds like you had dodgy compost - shouldn't get loads of flies. If it's been OK elsewhere then it might not be the compost itself unless it was full of fly eggs and the resultant flies just flew off outside. If it's smelly then it sounds like it could be water logged and therefore going a bit septic - not nice at all!
