  • OMG - What have I done??!!

I'm at one of those 'forks in the road' with life at the moment - I've found out some stuff that is really affecting how I look at the past, in a positive way thankfully And after talking about it with a good friend this afternoon, she's persuaded me to go back to studying. Now usually, I would um and aaah, find a million and one reason why I can't do it, shouldn't do, and end up not doing it... Instead, I've just been onto the O.U. website and signed up for the starting course for an English Literature and Language degree

I'm feeling a bit freaked out, and WHAT HAVE I DONE-ish now... I haven't studied since my O'levels!!

Please convince me I've done the right thing!! (I haven't even told the OH yet!!)

Were you 37 with 3 kids, and 2 allotments when you did it though?!

The good thing is that the course counts towards a History BA too, in case I change my mind, coz I love both things

My friend who did the persuading, has a PhD in English and is a lecturer in the subject so I will have plenty of help at hand

KK got his degree with the OU. It took him about 6 years but we were so proud when he got it. It was bleddy hard work and he had to be very disciplined but it was worth it for him. You go girl and try to enjoy it as well.

Note to Mr Wicks, please don't beat her too hard

Go for it Mrs Really, whats the worst that could happen? A bit of time and money 'lost' (and it probably wouldn't really be lost anyway, cos it'd all be a 'learning experience'!). And I'd bet my entire seed collection (not a wager I take lightly ) that you'll love it
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

...you should do the History degree! Go for it!

OH went to Uni (part time) when she was 35, at that time kid number 5 was about 3 months old - it was the best thing she has ever done (apart from meeting me of course ), it changed her life completely (Uni not meeting me) and now she travels all over the place, I reckon you have done a great thing and I wish you all the best.

                          Thanks for the encouragement everyone
Manda, you might be right I do love research, a lot, but I really love language and literature too, which is why I've chosen a starting course that can go either way.

I guess I'm going to have learn to be a lot more organised....
