  • No extra hour in the evening.

To all those of you looking forward to an extra hour of gardening time if the clocks were put forward an extra hour - sorry! The Daylight Saving Bill has failed to pass its Final reading in the House of Commons despite massive support.

It was scuppered by a few over-verbose MPs who talked it out of Parliamentary time apparently. I'm going to reset my own clocks anyway - who cares if I'm out of sync with the rest of the UK?

Exactly. Some of my clocks are never reset anyway as I never look at them. Don't even know where my watch is!

Does anybody know what time it would be if they hadn't started messing about with it?

And when did they start messing about with it?

The time now, without messing about with it, is the time now (GMT). Then it goes forward an hour in March (GMT+1) and back an hour in the autumn to GMT.

Thank goodness this NONSENSE did not happen!
I do NOT want to operate on French time. I do NOT want to be unable to walk my dog before breakfast for 6 months of the year without a torch.
GMT is fine for me thanks (no problem with 'daylight saving' in the summer). Last time they tried this stuff it proved to be a BAD IDEA.
In the mornings, children heading for school at the same time as people heading for work, NOT a good idea in the dark. Evenings, most of the schoolkids are home by the time most of the workers are on the roads. Less problem.
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.

Did a bit of research. First act was 1916.

Probably had something to do with WW1.
