  • Nigella's a silly tart*

I've just baked her 'ham in coke' recipe, I've smeared it in black treacle, mustard and brown sugar, I've studded it with cloves - it looks the biz.

Then she says 'don't throw away the cooking liquid' - so I haven't - but she ain't said why or what to do with it!

Any ideas on what to do with 2 litres of coke flavoured with boiled/baked ham?

just googled and found this on the uktv food site

"[...]And the salty, sweet liquor it leaves behind in the pot after it's cooked makes an instant base for the most fabulous black bean soup.

But just one thing before we start: don't even consider using diet cola; it's full-fat or nothing"

I've cooked that before, I think the coke is a bit of a novelty to be honest!

Yup, in 'How To Eat', she recommneds using the leftover cooking liquid for 'South Beach Black Bean soup'.

I've tried it but for us it was a bit too salty!

Stick some rum in it, drink it & imagine it's a 'rum'n'coke with a ham sandwich on the side?

Reduce it down and use it as a marinade for ribs or chicken wings.

Stop right there piskie - retract that statement - I'll not hear a bad word about the goddess of food
There comes a point in your life when you realize who matters, who never did, who won't anymore and who always will. Don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it in your future.
