  • National Vegetarian Week

This week is National Vegetarian Week. Tomorrow the veggies in my office have got together to create a feast for our colleagues (herbivore and carnivore alike).

So tonight I highjacked me Mum's kitchen (it's bigger than mine) and appointed Dad as sous chef and have been busy chopping, mixing and cooking. I have made a mushroom tart, tabbouleh salad, rocket and fennel salad, goats cheese truffles, artichoke, goats cheese and walnut salad and stuffed tomatoes.

    I'm knackered

Yep always veggie week here too, although only OH is veggie he doesnt like me cooking meat, only have it if we are out. Whenever anything food wise is organised outside of the home veggie food is usually non existant, except my family always say I take it he will bring his own lol.

I'm veggie too, although no-one else in my house is. They enjoy veggie meals. That food you've made sounds lovely! Hope they enjoy it! I went to a colleagues house a few weeks ago for a party and although she wasn't veggie, she made the most delicious veggie bean bake, it was scrummy and she made sure that there were plenty of veggie options. Hungry now

I'm a carnivore through and through, but had a few meals with a rellie of DH who are veggies, and their food was just sooooo yummy. I can't remember much about it, as it was a few years ago, but it was the first time I had eaten lentils or chickpeas, and both dishes were delish I've also been addicted to sun-dried tomatoes ever since, and can eat a whole jar full.

Both myself and son of mine are veggies, he has been since birth. New hubbie is not alas he would eat anything that used to have a pulse!
Your spread sounds yummy, hope it is appreciated as i am sure it will be that you have gone to so much effort.
When weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant. ~Author Unknown

I am a true omnivore. I love veggie (and vegan) meals, FOR A CHANGE, and can be quite inventive.
Hugh (of course) made a comment that sums up my ideal (but never happens because OH moans if I try too often) "the meat becomes a seasoning". I like the taste of meat, but I am quite happy with 'enough to flavour' the other ingredients.

To all you non-veggies who feel the need to tell us veggies how good the food we eat is, can I just say...Why?

Have you thought that maybe we are telling EACH OTHER as well?

                    and

If not interested, do you need to read it?

There are plenty of veggie meals I've enjoyed, but it wouldn't suit me to have nothing else. Those who feel otherwise, that is entirely your right, as it is my right to be an omnivore.

I'm a veggie, its a thread about Vegetarian week - of course I'm interested - what I'm not interested in is knowing you're a meat eater and telling me veggie food is tasty! Do you get that?

I suggest anyone is free to comment in a forum like this - I feel free to say the dishes people have posted about sound really delicious, I hope this will not offend anyone, no offence is intended.

                        All right, everyone?

Surely the point of 'vegetarian week' is to raise awareness among omnivores?
Why does it offend you that some of us comment that we are already aware of this, and share our pleasure in the variety (and BTW dispel the myth that omnivores never eat any vegetarian food)?
Why can't one omnivore take this occasion to talk about it to other omnivores? THAT is what you don't have to read!

Perhaps in future you could post a post telling me not to read the next post by yourself - oh right yeah thats why I had to read it, I didn't know what it said until I did!

Silly of me not to realise a thread about Veggie Week would be extolling meat-eating - oh and its okay to have some veggie food with your meat cos guess what it tastes nice! Lol!
