  • mortgages on timber framed houses

    Hiya,

How easy is it to get a mortgage on a timber framed house? I have heard you can get a non standard construction mortgage but then someone else said you cant get mortgages on timber framed houses.

I would have thought a mortgage broker would be able to find quite a few with competitive prices

SOME types of timber-framing are getting to be pretty standard these days, others (especially old ones) might be more complicated.

thankyou, I have spoken to a couple of companies and they are all pretty ok with it. With hubby doing ok we are looking at buying a house in the not too distant future. We saw a bungalow that we loved (I know silly to look before he is completely ready but hey) and started to dream. Spoke to the agent about it and told him we wouldnt be ready for another few months and he told us with the time of year, the fact its not of traditional bricks and mortar and the economic climate that it is most likely to be there in a few months. OH spoke to his parents as he was excited and they done their usual fear mongering so thought I would ask you lot. I knew someone would know and reassure me Im not nuts lol.

The vast majority of new build houses are timber frame. Brick and block was popular many years ago but labour (therefore build) costs are much higher than timber frame.
