Certainly make things a lot easier!

Had some friends stay over last night and we cooked a roast dinner this afternoon (maybe nit the wisest move in this heat!), but regardless they said last night that they'd like to go to the plot and earn their lunch.

Who am I to prevent people from feeling a sense of worth?

I have to say that they made a massive impact in the weeds and I rewarded them with a bag full of runner beans, potatoes and some other beans (can't remember what they're called, but the pods or white/purple verigated).

So, we came back, put the oven on and got cooking (well LadyWayne did most of it if I'm honest). Roast beef, roast potatoes, roasted baby beetroot, boiled baby carrots and runner beans and yorkshire puds and stuffing. Pudding was rhubarb crumble and vanilla custard.

I am pleased to say that all the fruit and veg we ate was grown by me.

    *smug smile*

Feeling a bit more positive about the plot now - oh, and I nearly forgot!

Whilst clearing weeds away I had a look at the Chicago Warted Hubbard squash and there was a fruit in amongst the abundance of flowers and it was/is MASSIVE! So very very happy.

Oh, and some nice light bulb shaped little chestnut squashes revealed themselves too.

    A good day.

Its great when people come help. Makes you feel all proud for your achievements. I am sure they enjoyed themselves and their dinner.

Maybe invite them 1 x month?

It's amazing what a difference a few extra pairs of hands makes

We we lucky to have the help of some friends in the Spring to get the potatoes planted, and the plots ready to go. The same friends are coming to help dig them up in a couple of weeks, I really hope there's enough to give them a decent amount in the share out, and I've got a string of onions and a plait of garlic to give them too

Good point I was actually wondering if you're dad was looking forward to our invasion, it could be like the 'land army' descending on his field.

I use a mix of six scoops of compost three scoops of sand/grit and two scoops of perlite, the quantity is unimportant as long as the ratio is the same, if for seeds I use this mix, if I am potting on I add some blood, fish and bone, along with a small quantity of chicken manure pellets
