  • Lost My Music.

Well my 'My Music' folder actually.

Whilst using 'Word' I use my folders to keep different types of documents in, My Music holds all my detailed reports. I went to open it this afternoon and slipped as I double clicked the icon. I have no idea what I did but My Music vanished from the 'My Documents' list, taking with it all my reports.

Please help me find My Music and no, I have looked in VC's new wood and its not there.

You've inadvertently dragged'n'dropped the folder into another one, I would imagine.

right click on 'my computer', 'show folders', 'my documents', then look in the folder above and below in the 'tree'.

Alternatively, do a search (start menu, search) using the most obsure file name you can remember being in the folder (so it doesn't return millions of hits), then look carefully at the path to see where the folder is.

Clear? Probably not - I don't know how savvy you are on these things. Someone will be along to explain more clearly, no doubt.

You need to search your computer for a title that you know is in there, and when it finds it, see where it is and go get it.

It'll be there somewhere! If you can't do the search try just one by one opening up all the folders in "My Documents". Good luck! That reminds me must back up the end of year reports I've been working on, so tedious I really don't want to do them twice.

Open up all the folders in 'my documents' and it will probably be in there somewhere. It's just been dragged and dropped by mistake. Happens all the time...

Thanks for all your advice. I have found 'My Music' it was hiding behind my pictures.

I just knew the vine would sort it.

                  Thanks again Colin

Wendy you have no idea how much of a relief. I do a small amount of work as a professional witness so the original reports can be vital.

Still lesson learnt I have been out and bought a memory stick and lodged all my reports on there as well.

Next time something like this happens, click the UNDO option (Edit - Undo) and the folder should miraculously reappear - voice of experience here!!

Oh but I do. The memory stick I store all my school planning had a wobble the other week and couldn't be read. Had I backed up recently - no. Fortunately through perseverance I managed to get it going again. Everything backed up now- most definitely.

Memory sticks are great. I back up anything important on them.
