Last Xmas Posting Dates for 2008:

Second Class - Thursday 18th December
First Class - Saturday 20th December

Special Delivery (Standard Service) - Tuesday 23rd

Mind you, I had to queue for 23 minutes yesterday - it wasn't even pension day or lunchhour

So you should probably get to your post office (if you still have one) tomorrow to beat the rush

I've thought about printing my own postage labels, but I'd need to buy accurate scales, and I still have to walk into town (4 miles) to post them ... and wait for a member of staff to take the parcels off me, because there is no Drop Box of any kind.

We used to have a PO a mile away, but they shut that down.
Now everyone has to use the central one, and they haven't put any extra staff on.

Is that where you print your own and pay by PayPal? I was told by the Post Master (grumpy old b) at a rural office that he doesn't get a penny for taking in parcels that have been pre-paid by the customer. Whereas if you buy your stamp at the Post Office he at least gets a few pence, per parcel.

I mentioned this to someone recently, who said that they get paid handsomely for having the Post Office in their shop so they should take what they are given!

Perhaps someone could confirm one way or another...

This is my understanding also - but to be honest my reason for having SS is purely business, I have a fair amount of posting to do and my nearest post office is 3 miles away and it really does eat into your day - self-employed see!

SmartStamp is software that you pay Royal Mail £50 per year to have on your system, I print my stamps to a dymo printer - I get on my knees and pray to it every night as it is so good.

Not sure about the paypal payment part of it, I haven't ever seen that, I pay by debit card.
