After a disaterous birthday cake last year I thought I should try to redeem myself this year.
(Not to mention throw a return gauntlet down to one of the dads who got all competitive last year)

I'm pretty pleased with the results. 8 hours in total I think.

i've just made a victoria sponge for my sons twelth birthday tomorrow.....all of a sudden i feel all inadequate again seeing he competition!!!!

better get the hundreds and thousands out and get cracking....
May the road rise to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rains fall soft upon your fields and,
Until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand

Big - I'd stick with the sponge if I were you. No one is actually going to eat Fifi - I'll bring her out each year until she goes mouldy

Jellie, your cake sounds delicous. Swappsies is fine

Bin - after 8 / 10 hours no one is eating Fifi ever!

That's lovely Lizzy, not surprised you don't want to eat it. Your little one will probably not let you cut it anyway!
