Default And if you thought vodka was just for drinking

And finally...

Here's an unlikely tip to keep cut flowers fresh in doors for longer - A tot of vodka! The spirit will keep vases clear of algae. Simply pour a small measure into the vase of cut flowers when adding the water. The alcohol sterilizes the water and keeps your cut flowers lasting longer.

I'd rather leave the flowers in the garden and sup the vodka!

Yeah, I couldn't waste vodka like that. I balk at recipes that require a bottle of wine . I couldn't believe when I heard a radio program saying you should only use good quality wine you would be willing to drink in recipes .

You could try sterilising the water by boiling it first, maybe?

Kind regards
Tracey

I've heard that paracetamol is good for cut roses - now we know why!

At last I have found a use for it!! I haven't really taken to voddie (or G&T for that matter), although I keep telling myself I must try it properly someday.

But I bought a bottle of it for when we were having a houseparty in our old house (so I think it was late summer 2001, certainly no later than Easter 02) and because it was for a party, a friend got me a huge bottle - the size they use in pubs (1.5l I think). The very top is gone out of it, but there must be over 3/4 of the bottle left, and sitting in the back of the cupboard (my family tend to drink G&T or whisk(e)y and OH's tend to have beer, sherry and the odd whisk(e)y too).

I have hopes of making some kind of nice liquer this autumn too though.....would blackberries work?
