  • I love christmas

and I'm not ashamed to shout it out loud. I love the lights, the cold, the crispy nights, the excitement, the celebration, the feel-good films, I love it!

[not the commercialism and the cr@ppy adverts though]

Well- you're going to have to check they work aren't you?????

We used to live at the top of a cul-de-sac with our large Magnolia facing down the road.
We left the lights in the tree all year- and turned them on on the 1st Dec from dusk until bedtime....right through till 12th night.
There were 22 young children living down the road and their parents thanked me every year for doing the display for them!

( urmmmm...for THEM????? te he- little did they know! )

Me too. I really don't get people with the 'bah humbug' spirit.

Fair enough, some people have had a bad time of it at christmas in the past but surely that's all the more reason to embrace the love. It's the only time in this country when (most) people are nice to each other for a month or so before we all go back to being grumpy barstewards in January.

Why wait for Christmas to be nice to others? Doesn't that tell you that it is insincere to make an effort for one month of the year? And being "nice" doesn't have to mean putting up lights or buying unwanted gifts just because advertising tells you that that is what to do.
Take away the commercialism and give me a good old fashioned family Christmas any day - with lots of humbugs!!

Yes my roof terrace (1st floor) overlooks a big green area in Beckenham, and Beckenham are not putting up any Christmas lights this year, so I have to make the effort, see I am doing it for the community as well, not my self!!! <cough><cough>
