  • Hudson River crash

I got really teary eyed when I heard the news, what a fantastic pilot, when you think of what could have happened.......waiting to hear his press conference. Now he should be given a medal for bravery or freedom. What a man.

Tony Blair gets a medal for assisting George W in invading Iraq for WMD that didnt exist, so this pilot deserves more!

    A truly moving story.
Dont worry about tomorrow, live for today

I think someone was looking after the plane and all of it's passengers/crew, it was not their time. I remember a few years ago a similar plane crash happened and unfortunately there was fatalities.

There have been comments that the pilot was doing his job - fair point - but he did well to put the plane down in one piece on the river. Mind you, Madmax commented that if it had been an American built plane it might not have held up so well!

Nice that nobody was seriously injured - good to have some good news!

So nothing to do with the excellent skills and experience of the pilot in being able to safely land a plane on water? A landing that (understandably) cannot be practised!?

We watched it last night - so glad everyone got out. It was the speed at which it was moving down the Hudson that was amazing, and getting everyone out so fast. What a great pilot/crew.

Unless he's flown a plane designed to land on water...

I have to say, when we were in the Maldives the smoothest landing I've ever experienced was on water - granted, it was a lot smaller plane, and was designed to land on water.

It really pees me off when people say things like that. All the training in the world does not prepare you for the moment when you either crumble, or stand strong. I've seen plenty of trained professionals go to pot when they've needed to prove themselves and it wasn't even life-threatening!

He gets a huge round of applause from me.

                Wrong!

He had to land the plane without any undercarriage down and therefore his viewpoint was totally different to what it would have normally been! (According to a tv interview with some chap who had also successfully ditched a plane in the sea)

I think the pilot did an amazing job but I am of the opinion when your time is up - it's up. A wee bit of divine intervention, perhaps?

A lot of these 'emergencies' can be practised (not sure about landing in a river) but it shows his strength of character for the real thing. Well done that man - hope he gets some recognition, and if there's any jobs going at ryanair when we go to Spain keep your fingers crossed that he applies!

Whether you can practice or not, I applaud his cool head. Most of us would flap a bit! Fair play to him. As a newsreader said today, he'll never have to buy his own beer again!
