  • Help with nibbles (no not mice again)

We have a village friendship evening on Saturday... I have offered to provide some nibbles. I need some really easy ideas as my day has just become very busy- I don't want to let the villagers down.
Help! I would like to do something different but not silly. got to be quick, easy and tasty.....Thanks

Choc chip cookies are quick and simple and you can make them quite different by putting different choc in them, or did you want savoury suggestions?

i always do veg and dip. carrot, cucumber, pepper, celery cherry toms ect. you can make the dip with cream cheese, mayo, chive, garlic, or whatever you have in goes down very well.
I'd rather regret the things i've done than regret not doing them at all.

want something sarory and don't mind spending a few bob? Try the bottled french mushrooms or fresh mush, cook them twice in frying pan. Cut up some streaky bacon into squares, cook until crisp. Mushrooms on biscuit (small blinis for preference) bacon on top, voila .............

You can't go wrong with our family favourite "Frazzle" what you want is a baking tray and line it with greaseproof or the like. Line it with shortcrust (read-rol is OK) then you cover it with bacon, onions and tomatoes (sliced) cover with grated cheese and wack it in the oven till the cheese has melted and gone golden. Cos you roll the pastry out really thin it cooks in no time at all then cut into slices ... we had one the other day just to cheer us up

              Spicy cheese crisp biscuits

              8 oz plain flour
1 tsp chilli powder (less if you're a wimp!)
1 tsp garlic salt (or I substitute some garlic butter for the plain butter below)
              half tsp paprika
              7 ox butter, diced
              1 medium egg, lightly beaten
7 oz strong cheddar cheeese, grated

Set oven to 220C/425F/Gas 7. Brush a couple of baking sheets with melted butter.
Sift flower and chilli powder, paprika and garlic salt with the butter - you can use a food processor but I don't - process for 30 secs or rub in till like breadcrumbs.

Add egg and cheese and process 10 secs till all combined (or mix well together with a wooden spoon.) Turn onto a floured surface and kneed until smooth. Shape the dough into a ball, cover with cling film and refrigerate for 20 mins or so.

Roll out to a biscuit thickness - about eighth inch - and use your favourite small biscuit cutter. Put them on a baking tray leaving a little room between, they will rise and spread a small amount.

Bake for approx 12 mins until crisp and golden. Check regularly, ovens vary and they're not so nice when dark brown! Cool on the tray for 2 mins then transfer to a cooling rack.

These little biscuits are seriously moreish.
