I have a small squarish garden, grassed mostly with borders on 3 sides and pots along the back of the house wall. It is walled all round with two sides having fencing 6ft high ( along the sides ) and one with trellis, ( opposite house wall ). The borders are narrow the garden gets the morning sun and by about 4pm no sun at all.the pots are in the shade by about lunch time. I am in the south west so its very mild.
I want to change it but dont know what to do, I want to keep the grass area, at the moment starting on the left I have a perris, a couple of chrysanths and a red pot rose, as well as a mock orange that I cut right back near to the ground as it had got way too big and it is coming along nicely, in the middle we have a few paving slabs with a rocking seat. Then a wigelia also cut back earlier in the year, in the next bed along with a broom that grows behind the seat, passion fruit, in the corner is a varigated Jasmin ? a clemitis and in front of these is a red dahlia. Along the back wall opposite house ( trellis ) another clemitis a yellow rose pink dahlia, orange dahlia, lurking somewhere a few bulbs, some polyanthas, some creeping thing with purple flowers( trying and dark leaves to get rid of )
other bits and bobs. A swing seat, steps down to lane, Bed along right side has a schoolgirl rose, three dahlia's, clematis, polyantha's, bulbs, honeysuckle which I have just cut back as its all growth on top and nothing at the bottom. there is a very large plant that grows green flower heads that turn red, in flower now.
Its all very higgledy piggldy and although I dont want straight lines I want to be able to grow a good variety. In the pots I have two pots of lily's, a pot of annenomes, a three tier planter that has had strawberies, summer flowers, and tomatoes, three hanging baskets and two wall mounted baskets again summer flowers, bleeding heart, couple of pots with various bulbs, and a climbimh purple flower sort of tree in the corner in a pot. My mind has gone blank on what some things are called.
I think I need to dig it all up and start again.
