Default Have a Happy Haunted Halloween!!

Hope you all enjoy your Halloween / Samhain / Shadowfest / All Hallows Eve (or whatever else you wish to call it) in whatever manner you choose to celebrate it!

Hope no-one gets too spooked out, nor too bothered by the Trick or Treaters and that everyone enjoys themselves!

And a happy Halloween to you too! (and happy anniversary to you and Mr D.)
My cats won't like the TorT's - they hate the doorbell! so will most definitely be 'spooked'!

Thanks Bramble! We have the gates open at the bottom of the drive and Bella on a short lead inside, so she cant get out of control when the TorT'ers call!

We had some TorTs round last night, OH answered the door, told them they were too early and to go away. Tonight we're armed with a basket of treats and not one has been round! Typical. Mind you, OH was threatening to ask any that came round to explain to him the meaning of Halloween or he wouldn't let them have anything, either that or offer them an apple and watch their faces - he can be a bit of a killjoy, he made some carol singers try to sing the second verse of their carol last year so perhaps it's no wonder we don't get many round, we've probably got a reputation.

Ha Ha! you made me laugh Alison! My OH goes all funny when the doorbell goes - claims he's shy! (Pah!) But I did make him answer the door once tonight. Last night he was saying we'd turn all the lights off and pretend we weren't in tonight, but there was no way I was doing that after spending ages carving up my pumpkin.
Pumpkin soup was very disappointing this year - did exactly the same as last year, but this years was quite bland and yellow rather than orange.

Honestly NOG.

We had a lovely evening yesterday. Miss E got changed after school (and gerbil cuddling). She and Mr E carved the second pumpkin which I put out by the gate. First callers just before six and last ones at about 7.30 who told us that our house does a "cool Halloween" pumpkin and spiders and balloons in the window. Little pumpkin by the door. Balloons on the basket. Miss E was a bit overwhelmed (first time out) and a little bit unsure. I took a basket of blessings to hand out to those that answered the doors in my cloak and very quickly put together herbal display on my head!!. That's something to live up to they'll have to be a bit better prepared next year methinks. Lots of candles.

Looking forward to next year now.

And I still have a pumpkin to go.

Thanks all for the anniversary wishes, we had a great day, especially as my Mum made it over at about 6pm (she lives in Corfu and is over here for the week only) and stayed over last night! Was a great night!

We had 2 carved pumpkins on top of our porch, all lit up, a smoking / glowing cauldron in the window nearest the door, a skeleton hanging just outside the front door, cobwebs and spiders all over the buddhelia, a Dungeon this way sign on one of the trees, besom hanging (floating) under the porch roof, a spooky door chime (Welcome Hahahaha! when you pull the purple cord), a wandering eyeball that rolls around the floor singing the Addams family tune and 8 pot tealight holders of witches and pumpkins down the drive, augmented with candles in small glasses!

Had about 15 or so lots of TorT'ers, some older kids obviously looking for money (which they didnt get - just some sweets out of the pumpkin plastic jar), but lots of tots with parents, couldnt resist asking 3 little witches which one was Nanny Og, Magrat and Granny Weatherwax, and a gorgeous 18 month old lad dressed as a pumpkin, taken around by his parents (fully dressed up as a Vampire and Witch too)! A great night indeed!

We are doing our feast this evening, as with BTW Samhain is generally the day after the first frost rather than any fixed date and we were unable to do much last night due to my Mum being here! So full feast with a place set for the beloved departed tonight and a bit of time to be spent communing later!

Hope everyone else had as good a night!

Hi all, sorry for being late to contribute to this thread!

I had planned to have a party this year but OH got a job abroad and the party kinda fizzled out. Bought pumpkins but for the first time in 6 years never got them carved - guess the ME is telling at the moment.

We decorated the house with lights and stuff brought over from our soujourn in the US last year - boy do they know how to celebrate it over there! Must take a picture before we take the lights down - and then will have to finally sort out how to post the pics.

Mrs Dobby - happy belated anniversary - way cool way to remember the date! - here's to the rest of them!!! Can't believe that we celebrated our 16th in August (where does the time go?)

Too True but living in a Christian land we all have to sway a bit. We were only one day out as the 31st was our first frost(Lucky I had all the pots in the greenhouse.) and these calander days are all just made up any way. Before the Julian calendar came in 46BC there were 355 days then we went to the Gregorian calendar where they added another 6. So we are well out, we have Samonios starting now but Winter doesnt start offically till 21 Dec....

Anyway each to his own and A Happy New year to you all.
Back to the gardening.

Didn't know about the first frost thing. Looks like ours is going to be tonight/tomorrow morning. And I'm working all day tomorrow 7am-8.30pm.

Why am I on here?

But we had a lovely evening yesterday.
