    The Growing Techniques Forum

    Anyone else think this is the wrong name for it? I'm always seeing posts that have been moved from there after newbies have posted in it. Even the writing under it doesn't explain that its for archived stuff. Maybe that whole forum could be locked to stop people posting in it? then the mods could just move stuff there. I know there is sticky thread at the top of that forum, but some newbies who are new to the forum and maybe even the internet itself, don't always read them.

    Anyway just wanted to see what the rest of you think

    We can all make mistakes about where to initially place our advice/questions.

    As a member of long-standing I undertstand the 'techniques' forum to be a kind of centre of excellence - almost a textbook library of growing.

    There are a number of projects going on this year such as the spuds from seed (real seed not seed spuds) etc and it is hoped that perhaps edited highlights may well find their way onto the 'techniques' board if found to be of sound quality.

    I shouldn't worry if your questions are placed elsewhere - particularly if they are likely to receive better responses which might actually help you. Believe me I've had plenty of stuff removed to a more suitable board and even an odd one deleted (strayed off track!).

    The mods do their best to steer everyone to get the best experience out of this forum and I think most of us do. I think they do a tough job in sometimes difficult circumstances and all are unpaid volunteers for their tenure.

    If you feel better descriptions/requests need to be addressed - they are all quite approachable via PM - but sometimes they are unable to satisy EVERY request.

    They are thankfully human!

      You're kidding, right? Human? Really?

      I agree with all the above though - I wouldn't have the patience to spend half my life zapping spammers!

          LOL guys

          Unfortunately, changing the names of, or descriptions for, the various boards isn't something we Mods have the powers to do, that has to come from Admin. Our best efforts have to be directed to moving threads which are in the wrong place. This morning's new sticky on Techniques came about after having to move or delete a dozen threads, some of them made by established members I hope it doesn't come across as too stroppy?!

          Quark, I'm sure the Potatoes from Seed will end up on there when everybody gets their results in at the end of the season, and we really would like some more content on that board, so anyone should feel free to nominate good threads too

            I'm not sure, however I am a little wet because I missed the Ninky Nonk home and Makka Pakka was being a little Pinky Ponk.

                  If anyone wants to suggest a new name [I was strangely enough trying to think of another name for it this morning]...we'd be delighted to put it to Admin.

                  Perhaps something 'Library' or 'Reference' based....- if someone has something more gardeningy around those lines.
