  • Growing Mojo?

OK I was thinking about Sparrows (glad to have you back old bean) post and losing your growing Mojo.
My MJ is not just hiding but seems to have gone into permanant retirement as I just don't have the energy or enthusiasm to continue growing anything other than world class weeds.
This is because of issues at home.
When I thought about planning for next year, buying seeds or getting worridly excited by seed sales I found myself just going 'Oh no not again'.
I was intending to use my buckets and raised beds for perrenial flowers to cut down on the time I have to spend trying to get an edible crop but then I found a solution to my mojo being a nogo.
I have paid for one of those ready grown (bare root about the size of stuff started in pots) veggie plant thingies that will send me 3 huge boxes a year to shove into the soil.
It includes seed tatties and toms and is suitable for my very limited space.

I can nearly hear tuts and gasps from here by some growers but I was wondering what the Grapes thought of this idea for those who want to grow but whose home lives are difficult/demanding to the point of exhaustion and or disinterest.

I think its a great idea, Lumpy. No faffing with seeds and seedlings, no cluttered windowsills.
There's a book called the half hour allotment (that half hour a day, not a week) and they save time by buying plants.
Why not, if it it works for you and keeps your mojo buoyant.

PS I don't know what a "mojo" is, so I'm letting my imagination run wild.

Mojo - might only just organise.

I still have some sugar snap, radish and carrot seeds so I will shove them in at some point.
The box delivery covers me for a year and I suppose could be seen as quite expensive (£99) but every one of their plants has survived.
I will only give it till this time next year and if my mojo has be re-assigned to someone who gives a dam I will be hanging up my slug hunts and framing my diggory do (the hand trowel thats a doo when I can find it and a diggory don't when I cant)

I'm guessing its from Rocket Gdns and it looks like they'll be sending you about 33 different types of veg over the year. Its not expensive when you work out the cost of seeds and compost and you can't put a price on the convenience.
Go for it and let us know how you get on.

For any one else thinking about it my Sept delivery was 109 plants including curly and black kale, spring cabbage, 4 different orientals including Emporers Savoy, 2 winter lettuce varieties and 15 winter spinach plants.

They do various sized deals from hooooge to my mini. Sorry this is not an advert just an observation on what I think.

I forgot winter spring onions and something as yet un ID'd

You're not getting any tuts or sharp intakes of breath from me lumpy. That's a great idea.
You do what ever you want or need to do, to get your mojo back. Anything that makes the lumpy happy is good.

Remember Lumpy...gardening should be a pleasure not a chore A selection of what I grow starts from purchased plants and it gives me just as much pleasure.

Perhaps your mojo will return after the coming hohoho

And as you know...we are always here for you

thanks for that explanation Lumpy, I thought it was a yoyo or something that keeps coming back to you

I think what you are doing is a great idea, as you still get the satisfaction of going out to the garden to get something you have grown, or simply to get a breath of fresh air I like growing flowers and therefore I buy plug plants which gives me pleasure when they flower, so there is no difference in what you are doing, in fact I might look into doing the same
it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

                        I've gotta agree with this.

The GC's are full of trays of plants at the beginning of the growing season and they all seem to sell, so you are clearly not on your own. I bought one sweet pepper for my greenhouse this year as I didn't buy the right seed earlier and would have had zero crop, still picking them as the plant is now in the conservatory.
I grow things the way it suits me, my wife asks if the financial layout justifies the end product, she didn't eat my raw Sweetcorn, straight off the plant, sat in the greenhouse like I did, otherwise she wouldn't need to ask lol.
