  • Global warming starts in Kent!

I woke up around 4.30 to a superheated bedroom! The themometer on the wall was reading 28! OH has poor circulation, so I have to concede to not switching the heating off overnight this weather, but the thermostat gets turned down to 18 .

The kids (16 and 18) had been pulling an all nighter watching videos. When I went down to investigate, they had put the thermostat down as asked, but had the doors and windows open! The thermostat is in the hall, but they had propped open the living room door, so we were trying to heat the whole world. They were tucked up in duvets on the settee, sound asleep.

I don't know what the temp is outside, but Metcheck forecaste -2. The heating system was working full time, and of course the rooms with the doors closed were unbearable. Goodness knows what our Japanese student was feeling like. She doesn't like the cold, but her room is the smallest, and she always keeps the door closed to keep the cats out. I hope she's not been cooked!

I hate to think what it's done to the bill, and I will be interested to hear the reasoning when I can get them awake enough to explain!

It was minus 6 up here a couple of hours ago. I bet there are some pretty grateful birds down in Kent!

You must be much more patient than me, coz there's no way the teenagers could have slept through me banging shut windows and doors, hollering at the top of my voice about "what the hell they think they're doing, are they paying the next flippin gas bill, and they're certainly not too old to be sent to bed at 9 o'clock...." They'd definitely be doing something to make amends for the huge hike in gas usage....

When my son stays over in UK he finds his room too warm compared to his Uni house- so instead of turning the radiator down ...or even off- he opens his window and puts on the fan ( yup- tis easier to climb into the attic and pull out the summer fan than turn off the radiator!!!)

        ...and he's studying environmental issues!!!!!

Having had a 'chat' with the 2 concerned and OH. Apparently they decided not to turn the thermostat down, so Dad didn't get cold upstairs! OH went down around 12.30, found they had the windows open etc, but 'didn't think' about the boiler trying to heat the whole of the world! Instead, when he came up he put the draught excluder along our door, so the cold from downstairs couldn't get in.
