  • Glastonbury Festival

We couldn't afford to go, although we would have loved to. But I've really enjoyed watching it on the BBC (Red button & iPlayer)
Has anyone else been watching it? What was your highlight? Did you watch Jay-Z? (I didn't, not a big fan...)
My best bit has to be The Verve, closely followed by Elbow & Massive Attack.
    BBC iPlayer - Glastonbury: 2008

If they scrap the registration thing, we might try & go next year, now the kids are old enough to appreciate it!

Kings of Leon for me - fantastic.

Thought Jay-Z was a bit over hyped and didn't really "fit". Amy Winehouse was shocking.

Eddie Grant was pretty cool too.

Massive Attack would struggle to be rubbish I say.

didn't go, but did watch some on the box, kept hearing on the radio about how great Amy Smackhead was so i watched it via red button, all i can say is there must have been a few too many aromatic ciggies being smoked. absolute trash

Hmm. Either I'm now officially very, very old, or this year's was the worst, ever !?
I've been about half a dozen times and played (tiny) stages a couple of times & watched mates on bigger stages. Usually, when I don't go, I've missed it, but this year ? Mister Eavis is right though - it's for da kids. Jay Who ?

I used to go quite often ..mainly before they turned it into a pricey concentration camp. Superb festival really -who cares who is on the pyramid stage for a couple of hours there's plenty of other things to do and see and hear if I recall. I would have though less people and mud would have made it more pleasant this year. If I ever go again I want a really comfy big campervan! Didn't any grape actually go...too busy on your allotments?

I enjoyed a bit of Mano Chow (sp?)on telly. Used to be in a French band I liked.(mano negra)

Yeah, watched Kings Of Leon and thought they were really good - their newest album is on shopping list

Hmmm, yes, I thought she was pretty dreadful too Apparently she's asked to headline next year...??!!

Partly I suspect, but also the long-winded registration process, the price of the tickets, and the atrocious weather in previous years.

Thing is though, you could have well avoided JayZ by watching Massive Attack instead. Or seen somebody new & great on one of those aforementioned 'tiny stages'?
I think gigs in general are for 'da kids' but I'm quite happy to be 'the oldie' in the crowd, albeit at the edge

Oooh yeah... Campervan... Trouble is, the tickets on their own cost the same as a week in a holiday cottage (We'd have to have 3 as our eldest is over 13), add the campervan hire & the extra cost for the caravan field and it's OH used to go with Ma & Pa when he was little, he really wants to go again, so I guess we'd better get saving!

I last went to Glastonbusy in 1991, after that it went "suit and corporate" Eavis has lost the plot totally with what the festival used to stand for. These days I'd rather go to watch the Wurzels in the next town's memorial hall far more fun and me dear late dad used to know them.

Go every year, the registration thing isn't a problem at all, can do it in seconds on line. Had a fab time, good to get back to mainly decent weather again. Never did go for the headline acts (would go to Reading or V for that) but love the whole scale of the thing. Spent hours wandering around the green fields, watching comedy, theatre etc as well as some quite obscure acts. I agree that it has become far more corporate than when I first went 16 years ago but you can still avoid the worst of that. We go in a big group, this year with ages ranging from 1 to late 40s and there was plently for all of us. Found all this hype about tickets sales ridiculous, it's only in the last few years it's sold out, the first time I went I simply went into Andy's records and bought one over the counter in early June. It only became a mad rush when the likes of Radio 1 tried to claim it was their event! This year, a lot of people are skint and last year's weather was particularly bad. Anybody not going simply because if one act is missing the whole point of the festival. Had not wish to see Jay-Z but a lot of peole watched him, so fair enough.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Anything associated with Radio 1 should be avoided, in my book. Maybe that's why it didn't sell out?!?

Would have liked to see Eddy Grant and Massive Attack, though. As for Jay Z, who the heck is that?!? Never heard of him/her!

I've spent a weekend in the studio with Massive Attack & see 'em in da hood every day ; ) (Xcuse the namedroppin')

...and as for 'new and great', I work with them all the time !!

But really, I don't like repeating myself repeating myself and am a fan of the smaller, less hyped festival.

The only bit I saw was Amy Wine@rse ~ absolutely atrocious. You expect a fair bit of panto from her, but she couldn't even sing, it was awful.

I'm going to my first ever festival next month, in Dorset. I like camping, so I should like a festival, right?
