    glass on the lawn - any ideas on how to rid thoroughly?

    Bummer, OH dropped the old cooker on my arm - it slid off the trolley (got a cracking bruise, cookers are heavy!) and the doors smashed and there is glass on the lawn.

    Obviously we are trying to pick it all up (in between the rain showers) but I am concerned that we will NEVER get it all up. The patch is just at the bottomn of the patio steps and I have 2 little ones who are bearfoot all ummer (ehen we have any sun that it).
    I am now worried we will never be able to go barefoot again.

    It is safety glass but the shards are still sharp.

    Any thoughts? janeyo

    ps dad has suggested cutting the lawn v short then vacuuming it. Or digging the patch of affected turf und re-turfing.

    i would say vaccum first and then cut, because if you cut the lawn then you could spread the glass in the mower around the lawn further.

      yup definitely hoover first, as it's safety glass, there shouldn't be any small slivers, so you should get them up easily, then mow the lawn, and hoover again just to make sure (make sure you have a grass collector on the lawnmower, so as not to spread any you miss)

        I agree. And if you're not convinced that it's all gone, take up some turf. It's not a bad time of year to establish new turf, and one roll shouldn't set you back too much.
        If you have/can get some witch hazel, put a cotton wool pad soaked with it on your bruise, it really helps. Hope it's not too stiff tomorrow (hug)

          Hope the arm is alright Janeyo. We had a similar problem a few years ago when a car crashed through our gates and ended up in a heap on our lawn. We did the hoovering (with a big powerful garden vac.) and mowing thing. Seems to have done the trick. Haven't come across any glass in the lawn since then. Mind you we don't very often go barefoot.

            Belt & braces for me: vacuum, mow, vacuum, mow. Then flipflops for the kids next summer.

            off on slight tangent: I remember the first Fatboy Slim gig on Brighton Beach: (pebble beach). Great gig, but next morning the beach glittered (beautifully I must say) under a veneer of broken Stella bottles.
            We never thought it would get cleaned up, but the sea did it ... and now there's the prospect of loads of lovely sea glass (that rounded lovely stuff like glass pebbles) for years to come.

                  Hi, thanks all. If it EVER stops raining then it will be vacuum then mow. Trouble is knowing how far the darn stuff spread.
                  My arm isn't too bad now, shoulder aches a bit I guess where I got jarred.

                    I remember that too, thousands of kids who couldn't play on the beach properly all summer

                    I lived in Brighton until a few years ago and never once found sea glass though, bah!
