Default Ginjinha or Ginja berry

While Madmax was working in Portugal, we developed a liking for the local liqueur - known as Ginja. This is brewed with Portuguese brandy and a local berry similar to a cherry, called the ginja berry.

Has anyone ever grown these in the UK? I have some berries recovered from the bottle of brandy which still have stones in. Is there any chance of them growing after being submerged in alchohol? Despite much searching online, I cannot find any more details about the plant and thought you wonderful grapes might be able to help out.

Hi Shirl, we have something similar down here, called griottes, which is a liquer made from a very small type of cherry.

I know somebody with a tree so later in the year - if I remember - I could get some stones for you.

Oh, thanks TonyF. I might try one of the drunk stones just to see what happens. Nothing to lose after all. I knew a grape would come up trumps!!

The Grapevine - better than the Internet for information EVERY TIME!
