  • Garden netting/mesh - where to buy?

Just looking at some netting/mesh to cover over seedlings during their delecate and vulnerable stage, protect them from birds mainly.

Do these look remarkable cheap to you?: All matching items for sale.

Yes very cheap. Wish I'd seen it sooner.

I bought netting from poundland. £1 for 6.5mx1.5m. Much cheaper than big name DIY stores so I thought I'd got a good deal.

Pound shop. Guess how much? Don't know how long it will last though - I've had some for about 15 years.

I don't even know if we have a pound shop near here - I don't go shopping if I can help it. I'm too intolerant of other people.

My favourite is when people barge into me - clearly not looking where they're going. I can't help myself and will usually blurt out "did you not see me?" or "sorry, was I in your way?"

              I rarely get a response.

I acquired a wide roll (5' wide x 50' long) of the blue fine mesh that you see on building sites. They are used by scaffolders (my brother is one) as a screen and are generally skipped when they dismantle their scaffold. If you know of any construction sites local to you it could be worth a try. It's very durable and pretty impenetrable. Hope this helps.

we've got scaffolding up on the entire terrace. they're RE-doing the roofs. hmm...they might end up with a it less than they started with ...might make amends for all the rubbish they're sweeping off the roof/scaffolding onto my babies

Yes they do look cheap Hey Wayne. BUT - you do get what you pay for. If you can afford to fork out a few more pounds I'd go for a proper net which is much easier to handle, store and bring back out for next year.
I've got a good one I paid a good few pounds for and it's no problem to work with -- and a really cheap one which is just a total frustration to work with.
I would say buy the best one you can afford, but if cash is tight, the cheap plastic ones will do the job. But you won't like working with it.

That blue stuff is the Mutt's Nuts in netting ... my neighbour has raised some totally caterpillar-free cabbages under it. I need to find me some builders...
I hadn't thought of looking for it on eBay, top tip Carl.

Also, pond netting is good stuff - nice small holes to keep the flutterbies out.

Thanks Carl, I just bought 50 metres for £34, delivered to my door (2m wide). That's 68p a metre I think. I doubt I'll use all 50 metres, so I'll put my leftovers back on eBay. Superb, thanks again.
