    Garden/allotment ornaments

    Someone on freecycle was getting rid a range of tiger ornaments, so I let her know I'd be interested in some for the garden.

    When I went to collect I was surprised to see she had loads waiting in her hallway to be collected, the place must have been over run with them. Anyway she gave me a very large sitting tiger that is far to big for the garden, so that will go up to the lottie. Maybe on my railway sleeper strawberry bed.

    Plus a 3' sitting tiger that's presently living in among some planted pots, but may be moved a foot into a small flower bed, which leads to the entrance of my garden and end of where I park my car.

    Then a 2' head of a white tiger, which I've put at the base of entrance to my garden, just in front of some black bamboo plants, so that should warn off any evil spirits or maybe just cats?

    I also have a cement bird bath in the garden and a sitting budda.

    Anyone else into adding non-traditional ornaments in the garden or lottie?

      I was given a 2 foot tall, very very heavy Egyptian cat and an eagle, can't remember their names. One is still at work, the other I put outside in the garden. Only noticed when the snow had gone that so had the cat! I wanted to put a notice outside reading "The cat was one of a pair, do you want to come back for the other one?", but himself wouldn't let me.

        I'm hoping so. In fact once all the bulbs pop up near my front door, I might moved the 3' tiger to that area, as the cats love to use that patch as a loo.

          My cement bird bath use to have a cement squirrel in the centre, but someone stole that. Too be honest the tigers are a little OTT, so unless I can get them to blend into surrounding plants, I'm not too worried if they go walk-about. I had expected a little ransom note for the squirrel, as I thought it was someone's little joke, but no it seems they wanted it.

            Your tigers sound cool Dottie, I hope they stay put. The ornament I had stolen had been given to me, so although I liked it, it was no great loss, but I would rather give something away than have it stolen. I think I'll put the other one out this week just for the sake of curiosity to see if that goes too!

              Yep I have to say I'm not pleased to find things stolen from the front garden or the allotment, but only put out things I'd freecycle myself or come off freecycle.

              You never know what condition things will be when collecting freecycle stuff, as not everyone has the same standards, I certainly wouldn't have the tigers in my house. I had a no show today for a great food processor that lots of folk requested, the same guy had also requested a Kenwood New York Smoothie Maker and a Kenwood Mixer that I put on a few days ago, so I'm glad I gave those to folk who actually turned up. No doubt he'll be back with an email saying he can pick up tomorrow, but I've got plans.

              It will be interesting to hear all the comments that will come at the lottie, many of the old timers already think I have mine too much like a garden. But a big tiger, now that will raise a few eyebrows!

                    I dont like cute ornaments much, but I do have a bronzey type dog and yes his head nods and he has a springy tail. In my defence it was given to me by a friend just before she died and he is half hidden by a shrub

                    I have a strong suspicion that my mate couldnt abide the thing and was just getting rid !

                        For Christmas I was given a wooden lady with a flowerpot and watering can, I love it but its the only ornament in my garden. Picture on the santa pressie thread.

                          I forgot about your pigs TS, I'd love some of them or any animal that you might keep on a small holding.

                          A tiger is certainly not my first choice, but he's not cutesy, he's growling and will definitely be defending his/my allotment terrority. I've just dropped him off at the lottie, as I'll be dashing off in the car tomorrow to load up a load of stuff, and I don't want to set off and suddenly remember he's in the back. I've just put him in front of my shed at the mo, as it was too dark and slippery to put him in his final position.

                          Not my first choice, but I just love anything that is a little out of the ordinary on my plot, just to bring a smile and cheer the place up when not much is growing. Also like the idea of him popping his little head out, when I've got lots of crops.
