| Saw a nice big bumbly bee yesterday down the plot, and Mr D recons he saw a baby cabbage white butterfly, but I dont think they grow from tiny things into larger ones, more a case of emerging from the cocoon fully formed isnt it?

| First (small) cabbage white butterfly of the year. Actually it was two, mating on the wing - clearly in a hurry. I got this one! Show no mercy. I've figured it's more efficient to kill the butterflies than thousands of eggs or hundreds of caterpillars. Wotcha reckon?

| Had butterflies on and off for well over a month now, loads of dung flies, buggers when you're trying to work, all of the above plus the red and black flies (my g children call them grenadier guards) that we get here in abundance, like the ladybirds, all walking round joined at the tails. Had a look at the bee hives from Oxford Bee Company yesterday and the three of them all have masonry bees making themselves at home. Must get the camera out today.

| Have seen quite a few yellow brimstones around lately and saw my first cabbage white today. Also today spotted the sadly common and very ugly vandal butterfly. Appears floating as if from nowhere, usually during the easter holiday. Brief respite usually provided between the months of april and early july. Then, as with the cabbage white, all hell breaks loose for approx 2 months. SM |

| Squash Muppet, What's a Vandal Butterfly? Can't find anything on Google...? Ah, just got you. Easter Hols: kids, aka greater-spotted-hoodrat !

| We've had peacocks, small tortoiseshell, brimstone (they used to be mega rare) and the first holly blue yesterday. Brimstones have such a flittery flight that I've never managed to pohotograph one.
