  • FINALLY some GOOD news (but there is bad, too)!!!

When I discovered over the weekend that my friend has had a serious riding accident, I thought the curse was well and truly alive. She is still mostly paralysed from the neck down. Me and OH are helping out with little things, but they do feel little, as we can hardly walk for her.

However, I have heard from another friend this morning, back Oop North. Just over three weeks ago, she was planning to end her life. All the letters were written, plans were in place, her Mother had died after a long illness and she felt she had nothing to live for. A couple of her friends (including me) have been in constant contact with emails, phone calls and letters (and I've sent her a 'self-help' book I found very useful when I was depressed) and she checked herself into a MHU to stop herself from carrying the deed out. She's started getting on with the nurses to such an extent that she has now agreed to start volunteering as a Patient Counsellor, so will be occupied, is starting an Access Course and has plans to start a Nursing Degree in 2010. She's wanted to be a nurse for many years, but she has had such bad depression, it's been impossible. I really hope she's turned a corner for good, now, as she seems the most positive I've ever seen her, since I got back in touch in December (when I joined Facebook). I'm absolutely thrilled for her! Good eh?

p.s. The book is The Invitation, by Oriah Mountain Dreamer (yeah, I know..., lol!)

As someone who works with people who, shall we say, have problems, well done to you. People who are in this situation obviously feel very very lonely and knowing someone is there is a major support. Keep up the good work, mate!

Can't even begin to imagine what that must be like for your friend, buthappy for her that she has friends like you around.

Good work, and pass on well wishes for me (however that may be - hope that makes sense?)

Cant be easy seeing your friends in such dire straits. Sounds quite trite but I hope that all eventually works out for all.

Thanks all. Just heard from accident friend's hubbie and she's apparently having a 'good day', today. I'm not sure if he means mentally or physically. I'll be collecting and delivering their hay in a couple of days, so will see him then (and will deliver his Elderflower Cordial - my 2009 Batch II - as promised!).

I'm still cock-a-hoop about my school friend. I was ready for driving the 4hrs up there to hammer her door down! Think I can afford to go up as planned in late July instead!

Your poor friends. Makes my bump look very minor (I'm in pain, but I can walk).

Well, accident friend apparently has said she will ride again if she recovers enough, much to her husband's dismay. He can't talk, though, he's got a motorbike and goes mountain biking! I'm taking that to mean she's feeling more positive and determined to get better.

Other friend still seems very upbeat and guess what? She DID GARDENING!!!
