Feel so much better for getting out there and digging the 'new' bits that will be new beds over. I am sure I will hurt tomorrow but don't care!

Absolutely, I have felt all 'fat and flumpy' for ages, now I feel I've blown a few cobwebs away. And can make a start on burning off the xmas excesses! Hopefully I can do a bit more tomorrow as the toddlie is at the childminders... pray for no rain tomorrow!

I'm just back. No digging as the clay was too wet - but weeded the garlic trial bed and dug up some leeks for tonight's dinner. Absolutely bloomin gorgeous out there today. Wish I had more time to spend out there.

I should have gone to the lottie today but decided the Ironing needed doing, set it up but thought I will just try and book a holiday, that aint happening, got two things ironed son no 3 phoned I'm going to endsleigh garden centre want to come, yes says me, he picked me up I spent £18 on a potato sack ( dear ) 2 pkts of chicken manure bogof ( bargain ) and two propergator lids ( not a bargain ) came home had lunch and back on computer so if the sun shines or at least its dry I will go tomorrow morning. Promise.Gardening ..... begins with daybreak
and ends with backache

Should call me Dugless! Spent the day on the computer trying to get together the Village in Bloom portfolio. Got to cadge around at tomorrow night's meeting for photos. Last chairman took off in a huff with all the info! If I'd know I'd be doing it I'd have taken more pics myself. So it was *sort of* gardening - but exercise free. Not really as good!Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

I haven't been digging, but spent four hours
raking up leaves. Got a lovely blister from the rake handle, shows how soft I've got lol. First bit of paid work since middle of last month

Ouch. What did I read about to harden hands up? Witch hazel? Or something like that.
My hands are harder skinned that OH! He works on PC all day, you do notice a difference with a few weeks off though.
Good news about your work, we had a chap here today laying a path and he says he's so unfit after xmas!

Looking forward to getting onto my plot soon, it is rapidly turing into a weedy looking lawny thing as it has been so bloomin cold. I have to wear gloves for digging etc else i get blisters, they are abit like battle scars though aren't they, show you have dedication and commitment to your plot!lolWhen weeding, the best way to make sure you are removing a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull on it. If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant. ~Author UnknownComment

Ive had a couple of days off, i dont have an allotment but felt good to get out into the garden in the fresh air and do something, pulled up old plants and binned them, dug over some of my beds and planted some more garlic.....it felt soooo goodLife isnt about surviving the storm.....But learning to dance in the rain.Comment

I read this post and went to dig!
Evened out where the arch is going to go. (Mr H got it for me for Christmas) Then dug over the last bit of the potato patch. Some bits were still frozen solid. It was just so nice to get back out even if it was for just an hour. My back aches now, I am seriously out of shape

I went to lottie , to give the dogs exercise, then started thinking about Janeyo, so I thought hey I could dig over a bed............oh I did, backs killing me, hands are wrecking, knackered, I cannot believe that a few weeks off could affect me so much.......
next time I will just weed, in a week or so lol..........off to eat a magnum.Dont worry about tomorrow, live for todayComment

Yesterday I dug over and weeded (admittedly a not huge!!) bed but we had not had rain for ages and I was getting sick of looking at the weeds. The soil was so friable the weeds just lifted. My wrist has never recovered from last year's fracture(and I'm told will not get any better but probably worse as the other bone is now too long and rubbing)so I was pleased that it was fairly easy. Even when it started to drizzle I kept looking at what else I could do. Got quite damp in the end. After that I ended up in the greenhouse, tidying up the geraniums I am trying to over winter and then messing around with the potato sacks. Felt I had really achieved something. Roll on spring eh?Comment
