  • Fed up of being Ill

As you all know I have been sufering big time with flu, I am so fed up with it.
I started with a sore throat before christmas and each day got worse with flu.
Since boxing day I have had the following medicines.....
Lemsip x 20 plus paracetomol when I ran out
    Benylin cough medicine 1/2 bottle
    Mentholated Bronchial Balsam
    Iboprofen
    Codine
Went to the Doctors last thursday with earach and was given antibiotics.
I have drunk orange juice eaten oranges
I am off food will be good for the diet
    i cant hear properly
Havent done anything except sit around most of the time.
    I now feel depressed.

What more can I do. What would you do if it was you.

I know its not life threatning like some people have, and sorry if I sound self pitying.

Poor you JJ. I do sympathise, having had flu two Christmases ago - I lived on home delivery pizza for a few days until I felt up to going out.
If I were you I'd nag the doctor for answers - it doesn't pay to be stoical.
    Oh, and chicken soup!

Don't really know what more you can do. Antibiotics should be doing their thing and sure you'll be on the mend soon.Sending sympathy and a hug (((((((x)))))))

Big ((((HUGS)))) JJ. Flu is awful, and sitting around doing nothing is all you can do whilst your body fights the infection. Put your feet up and relax. Get plenty of sleep, too. The rest of your family are old enough to look after them selves - so let them!

I really feel for you xx

I've only ever had flu properly once...and I honestly was so ill I wouldn't have cared if I'd died...certainly for the first week.
The second week sounds like you are now...and such a rotten time of the year too for you- I bet you've been looking forward to Xmas and New Year...and now they've gone

( am I cheering you up yet???)

...go on..feel sorry for yourself- it's OK...and listen to your body...and rest up.

With you there Nicos - I had it about fifteen years ago, and also wouldn't have cared if I had not woken up again. I now know what Flu is, and I never want it again, thank you.

I know JJ you are sick and tired of being sick and tired. People who have never had proper Flu dont know what they are on about when they ring up and have one day off with the sniffles.

Sadly there is NOTHING more you can do.... Just rest vitamins and relaxation... or TLC in otherwords. Keep up with the meds from the docs and lots of fluid. Oh and most important <<<HUGS>>> XXX

If it really is flu then antibiotics wont do a thing as they treat bacterial infections and flu is a viral infection. You should go back to the doctor and ask for antivirals if you have been ill this long. I know a lot of people don't like herbal remedies but have you tried ecinecea (sp?) as that is supposed to be an immunity booster. Also hot drinks I find help better than cold ones, and preferably not caffinated so things like herbal tea (look for ones with cinnamon and/or ginger in them too) and hot squash with spices.

I am quite experienced with the flu myself. This is the second year I have had piggy fflew and this year I have also had normal seasonal flu. If you are really worried and it still isnt shifting then go to the hospital (even if that is to an out of hours GP service if yours is at the hospital like mine) and tell them how long you have been ill and that it is not improving as they can prescribe different things that a normal GP wont have access to usually (like giant doses of things).

**hugs** Get well soon. I hope I do too X_X

Thanks all, OH and daughter have pretty much seen to themselves, we both just did a Tessie shop as running out of basics, boy was it busy.
Resting yes, sleeping not really. Napping in the afternoon.
Dont want food but am having Tomato soup and french bread in a mo. Coffee not interested, having one now and its urgh.
Antibiotics are for earache not flu.
Yes Nicos I was looking forward to it all and did my best, then just collasped, Birthday on Wednesday and girlie night on Thursday so hoping to be feeling a bit better by then.
Bought some day and night flu capsules to try and some vit c. OH says to take them 2 or three times a day but they are one a day. Bought more orange juice as well.

Oh I know how you feel. Go back to the doctors again and pester them about your ear, I went three times, the finally decided I have shingle on my eardrum; lots of VERY STRONG antibiotics. This is on top of two weeks of flu [probably swineflu but they won't commit] Grt better soon, lot of big (((((hugs))))

Jackie I am another believer in echinacea, I use this when I start feeling ill. It is meant to increase your white blood cell count and therefore helps to fight off illness. I think you can only take this for two week periods and then take a break. I know some people are a little weary of these things, but I certainly finds that it helps me. Also, when I had shingles a while back, my dr recommended seven seas tonic to help build me up again. Hope you start to feel a little brighter soon
