  • fastest flowering plant?

    Hello

I'm doing some teaching for year 4's in the middle of march and we want them to grow something (teaching them movement and growth). What's the FASTEST flowering plant?

Something in a few weeks from seed would be great.

Don't Lily of the Valley flower in about 3 weeks? Though they're from pips, not seeds.

Broad beans. they smell lovely too

(whatever you choose, start some now, for that "here's what I did earlier" moment)

i can't, it's just something designed for them to grow and observe after the workshop.

basically, i help run science workshop at a deprived London primary school. we go there for 2 days to inspire and be role models for them. but we also want them to remember us, so we always leave them some experiments at the end of the workshop to continue and report back to us later.

I'd just like something fast that will flower that they can record.

        probably broad beans then

I think you stand the best chance of a fairly quick result with something with fairly big seeds such as calendula, marigolds or dwarf sunflowers as they all grow reasonably fast.

Problem is, nothing much grows very fast in the middle of March, does it?

I got some reduced price paperwhites bulbs - they grew really fast and were flowering in just over 2 weeks from planting

Amaryllis bulbs grow so fast you can measure them daily- we did with little ones.
Don't you get 10 week stocks - should flower in 10 weeks then?
