  • Face Book & Phone Numbers.

I've had this message sent to me. I thought everyone on Face Book should know.

"EVERYONE'S PHONE NUMBER IS NOW ON FACE BOOK !! NO JOKE.
Go to the top right of your screen, click Account, then Edit Friends.
Go to the left side of your screen and click Phone book.
Everyone's phone numbers are now being published.
Please re post to let your friends know this is happening so they can remove their numbers if they want to."

I've had a look and it's true. Scary really when your Phone numbers there for all to see

Its a good point Ginge. I don't put my contact numbers on anything like that, you never know who can see the information do you.

Apparently this message went round F.B a few months ago P.B. All my info's private anyway, but it's better to be safe then sorry in these cases me thinks.

Absolutely hun, especially for newbies like me, who might not realise what information other people can see

Aye, my son says it's been the rounds a few times but it's always worth a reminder.

It has been round a few times now - it's also worth remembering that only your friends can see it as long as you change your privacy settings to friends only (always good) but the ones that you should take off your account are the games, quizzes etc that you give access to to be able to play. They have access to all of your information all of the time not just when you play the game and they stay on your account forever unless you delete them off.

Everyone on FB should be setting their Privacy details to Friends Only - we've done it for numbers, emails, photos and tagging

Speaking of tagging, if you don't want everyone seeing photos of you at the Xmas do with your nix round your ankles, click Me Only in the photo tagging option (one of our school TAs is on FB dressed like a hooker, ie bra, pants & fishnets, no skirt ... it's doing the rounds as we speak)

If you us your phone to access Face Book for text or internet it will have your number on the list...even if you put it as Private or me only. And because you've accessed it yourself they can keep your number on file. I never us my phone for F.B for this reason.

Thanks for posting this - I had no idea. I don't think I put my number on there, but will have to check anyway, just to put my mind at rest. This makes me SOOOO CROSS!

I've never given Facebook a phone number but just lately they've been asking, fairly regularly, that I update my profile to make the security higher...second thing they ask me for is my phone number.

Thanks GN. My son has just got a smartphone and has definitely been using it for Faceache. No solving that, but at least I can tell him to set it as "me only".

Games only access the information you make available to 'everyone' (the ones I play do anyway, read the text when starting the game). I have several groups of friends, (Grapevine being one group) and my privacy settings are all 'custom', most of them being 'friends except game friends' (game friends being people I only accepted as friends for the purpose of facebook games).
It's not difficult to adjust privacy.
I gather the 'security' thing is concerned with wifi access. Our home network is wired, I never use any mobile access (and I never put phone number or any other contact info on there).
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.
