  • Eucalyptus+Pittosporum+ Frost = plea for help!!

Both of the above were caught by the -12 frosts that we had over the winter.
The top two thirds of the Pittosporum has shed its leaves (bottom third is sheltered, so leaves are ok) should I chop plant (small bushy tree @ 12' tall) back to green leaves or will the leafless section re grow?

Euclyptus (huge tree) has changed colour to bronze, where frost has damaged/killed leaves which are now falling in profusion. Will this re grow from the twiggy branch tips where frost has done its worst?

I dont want to go pruning mad if things just need time to re shoot

Sorry if posted in wrong section

I think you could prune them both - you can certainly prune a eucalyptus down to the deck just about. There's not much option really is there, but I think it's the way to go. We have lost just about every ceanothus in the village. What a winter eh?

I lost my ceanothus this year Flum, it's very sad. I'll have to get 2 more I think, to make up for it.

Hmmm problems though Flum, the Eucalyptus has a trunk of at least 2 man sized hugs round. We have it reduced every couple of years (we did not plant this tree - it came with the house!) I just wondered if the branches would re sprout, same with the Pittosporum.
        Thanks for your help though.
FF all the Ceanothus in our village are looking very grim too. Next doors have removed theirs - shame - it was a sight to behold when fully 'blue'

There's no excuse for me HF, it was in a huge tub, but has always survived the winter before and given me the glorious blue every year. I should have realised and fleeced it. Tis funny because I was going to put it into the ground this year.

You can really saw a eucalyptus. It re-sprouts from hard trunk.
