EC Meat Codes I'm trying to make head or tail of the oval codes found on meat products.
A bit of work on Google has got me close but not answered my questions.
Also, does the quality bacon standard mean the meat has been produced in Britain,or elsewhere to British Standards.
It all seems very confusing. No where on my Bacon does it actually state that it is reared in the UK,but it does have the 'Bacon standard'logo and 'Assured food standards' logo which are superimposed over Union Jacks, but as mentioned doesn't say anywhere that it's British reared meat.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Ben.

Un less it actually states that it is BRITISH MEAT o n the front, with official labelling, then it isnt, the codes are on everything.....be careful in supermarkets, some of them say its British, but when you closely examine it is form another country, BUY form your local butcher where you can have local meat and they display where it was killed and reared.

Its all a con...British Pigs are reared in better conditions that those in Europe.
But they can raise and kill the pigs abroad then import and process/cure them in the UK and its British Bacon. My phone has more Processing power than the Computers NASA used to fake the Moon Landings

I agree with Allotmentlady. I buy from my local butcher who sells superb quality meat and posts a board showing where it all came from - local farms.
It's expensive - but I know exactly what I'm getting and where it came from.
We prefer to go for the quality and cut down on the quantity.
From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.

Most of what we buy comes from Waitrose (only supermarket in town). They do try harder than most to sell what you think you are getting.....
