My son rang me to say his much beloved dog Byson had to be put down, he was a much loved German Shepherd, the biggest softie with big puppy dog eyes, he has been struggling to walk for a while and every now and then his back legs would go and would end up having to be carried, his legs gave way yesterday morning. My son and his gf are so upset. They have recently lost a rat and a snake and no the snake didnt eat the rat !

That is so sad, people who don't have a dog don't really understand how much they become part of the family.
When he is ready he might like to consider adopting a dog from the dogs trust there are lots of really lovely dogs there that need someone to love them like he did Byson. I know it is early days yet, we got our dog daisy from the dogs trust and we don't own her we adopted her and she is very much part of the family, can't imagine life without her now so my heart goes out to your son.

Very sad news. Hope that in the near future they'll be able to give their love to a new puppy friend. It would be a shame to let it go to waste when there are so many deserving doggies out there waiting for someone to love them.

I think it was HeyWayne that said A dog is for life but not just the life of the dog, the memories will stay with them forever.
It is the doom of man, that they forget.

oh, that's so sad... but it's one of the things a German Shepherd owner knows to look out out for, and dreads happening, they are so prone to it as a breed.

my best wishes to them Jackie, they have done the right thing, the poor dog would have had no quality of life and been in pain.

They probably will get another dog but they need to find somewhere to live first, at the moment they live in his grandparents house with them and younger brother and dad, its a large house which years ago was converted into 2 flats. They already have loads of snakes, stick insects, a rat, abearded dragon which is huge, a cat, so I think they have enough animals lol not that that means the dog wont be missed cos he will.
As they cant affored a mortgage as he lost his job last oct/ nov and have no savings they can only rent and thats not easy when you have pets.

Oh dear, what a shame, at least the dog is no longer suffering. With time, your son and his g/f will be able to deal with this. Its a painful time for them both. Our thoughts are with them.

Sorry to read this. It's heartbreaking to lose a pet that has become part of the family. Hope when their circumstances improve they can give a home to another lucky dog.

Sad news Its never nice when this happens! Im not looking forward to the day I say goodbuy to any of my cats!! My old tom cat is about 15-16 now and looking old and tired but still has the brain of a young cat about some things. I fear he will be the first to go!

wishing you all well remember all the good times and love he gave you. That's what I love about animals, they give you unconditional love!
