  • Doctors sheesh! 'gardening's only light exercise'

i went to my doc's the other week, as part of the mirriad of questions i, of course had to answer the 'do you do much exercise?' question. when i said that i do gardening he put it down as light exercise!!!!!! strangely this really annoyed me because (as anyone who has ever dug over soil or done some major weeding knows) gardening can be major exercise.

    what do tou guys think

I suppose if you are riding on a mower and then lightly hoeing your borders it is light. However, if you're growing veg, reclaiming overgrown plots, digging, weeding, bending, lifting, by heck, those doctors want to give it a try!

Here's is the crux of it, you should have said I have an allotment. Then if he puts down light exercise, suggest he comes and has a go for the weekend.!!
I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.

Suppose if all you're doing is pulling out the odd weed then it would be light exercise, however...........

Friend of mine had the opposite thing, was told that she shouldn't do pilates for three months after having her baby as it was "high impact"??????? Apparently swimming was fine though, don't know about gardening. She ignore it all and did what felt right for her.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Conversely, my doc thought that horse-riding was moderate exercise. I'm a happy hacker and am pretty sure I do MUCH more exercise in the garden! Problem is, they base it all on averages.
