  • Do you tip the delivery man ....

    for your supermarket shopping delivery?

We tend to for takeaways etc, but haven't been tipping the guy who delivers our supermarket shop. Are we being stingy? What do you do?

They are NOT allowed to take tips (or anything else ) If they are found to take a tip they will lose their job. I work for Sainsburys and this point is covered in their training.
If they give specially good service (quiet in the back row please ) please email the store and complement them by name, JS's employees get 'shining star' vouchers worth real money for this kind of thing and I am sure other companies do the same.

Aaaahhh. Thanks, I never knew that. Though I'm sure I tipped someone just before last Christmas, season of goodwill and all that. Fortunately, I can't remember which supermarket it was

I would never tip anyway, but will always ring up or email for excellent service. In fact, I rang up to praise the driver last time we had a delivery, as she was brilliant!

Ah, it's brilliant for the heavy stuff: I do a big order of washing powder, beans, gin etc to last for 3 months or so.

Fresh stuff I pick up daily on my bike.

Never had a supermarket delivery, dont intend to start either.

I tip: waiters, taxi drivers & the hairdresser.
Used to give the postie acouple of quid at christmas, but we always get our post really late, if at all, and its always different people, so wont bother this year. If I had milk delivered it would be the same.
I only tip if they provide a good service though.

It seems to be unanimous (and banned by the supermarkets). Nice to know, thanks to everyone.

PS I'm glad I had my shopping delivered today- 12 cases of Stella, as the supermarket had them on special, so I bulk buy for OH, 2 brothers and my Dad

My OH had to take on a job delivering shopping. What meant more than a tip was people helping to carry in the shopping instead of just opening the door and watching him do it ....
