  • Do you believe in 'signs?

When I was a little girl I used to help on grandad's garden, and he had masses of little pyramid shaped stones that he had once laid as a path. They collapsed into the soil as they were a rubbish path and over the years got dug in and spread about his garden.

I used to spend hours as a girl finding them, collecting them, playing games with them and getting them out of his veg patch as they drove him nuts. He loved his garden.

I have been planting things in this garden now for several months and as yet have never come across any stones.

This morning I went and there were hundreds of them, strewn about and coming out of the soil! Needless to say not much gardening was done as I was too busy filling a bag with stones and I have brought them home to put round one of my favourite potted flowers.

I am now convinced they were a sign from grandad that he has been watching what I have been doing and approves! I am very happy today.

Don't tell me the heavy rain has brought them to the surface or it will spoil my illusions lol

That is really lovely Janeyo, I certainly do believe in signs and that sounds like one to me! (makes me go all goosepipply!!)

      not exactly, but.. sort of.....
Things which 'make sense' when seen that way have a strong appeal. Mostly they are co-incidence, but just occasionally, that theory won't work.......

What a lovely story. Yes I believe in signs, I could never get cuttings to root, but it didn't matter because my lovely Nan could get anything to strike so she'd do it for me. When she died I decided to have a go for myself, did loads, and every single one took root. I'm still not as successful as she was, but at least I can now make the attempt and have a reasonable hope that it will work.
Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

How Beautiful, now wonder you were soooo happy! Its brought a lump to my throat and goosies on my arms reading your experience. I truly believe the people we love the most try their hardest to let us know they still love and watch over us when they can.

My beloved Gran died 4 years ago and I took a Peony from her garden.
The 1st year after - 1 huge flower.
The 2nd year after - none (roots were covered too much so the buds died)
The 3rd year after, this year - 3 beautiful blooms.

I know I can read as much into it as I want too - anyone can but it's the numbers that get me. The year the buds died, I had a miscarriage as well as a full term baby and so this year we have 3 members of our family. Uncanny!

I like the stories that are coming.

I am now more excited about going back to that garden to plant in than my own, just to do the 'stones' hunt again lol

It is a bit strange that I have earthed up the spuds there a few times and no stones, yet today so many!

Ooo, there's another goose-pimply Grape here now! What a lovely story. I certainly believe in signs like that, as someone else said I think it's a way for loved ones who are no longer with us to 'keep in touch' as it were. Several times I've felt as though my beloved late parents have 'helped' me do things, and my dear old Gramp gives me a hand in the garden I'm sure.

I've named one of my chooks after my Nan, who passed away 4 years ago. I was a bit wary as I was worried that she might have been offended. When I was dusting I told her photograph all about Gladys, the Wheaten Maran, and I swear I heard her laugh and call me a cheeky besom. It was probably all in my head, but it didn't feel that way.

When I spoke to my Mum later on the same day, I asked her if she thought Nan would have been offended and she said, 'no, Nan would have laughed and called you a cheeky besom!'

Could be coincidence, but I know what I'd like to think.
