  • Do They Work ????

I toddled myself to Hombase this morning to buy a brush to paint the fences, i was stood for ages staring at the biggest brush i could find and thinking about the amount of fencing we have and that it needs both sides doing ! "could be a long job" ! when i noticed they have them sprayer things on special, do they work ? or does it get everywere ? will i end up with a spray tan !

We used on on our front fence - it was ok, but we did have to put card down, as the ground was getting sprayed as we got lower (and the brick wall ajoining the fence) and my arms etc....

Although it was a lot quicker!

The sprayers I have used work well and get into all the fiddly bits. They are also much quicker than hand painting. The catch is in the price of the paint. It works out much more expensive as the paint is much thinner than the regular stuff and coverage per litre is poor.

If you are doing both sides of your extensive amount of fencing, that's about 1000 square meters to cover.

I hand-painted 13 fence panels back and front. It was hellish.
Incidentally, I found a smaller brush much easier and quicker than a big brush, because I could get in all the fiddly places.

I just one panel a day, and it was soon done. My neighbour used a sprayer ... and he's done the pavement too.

I use a proper spraygun on my fences you get much better coverage than a brush...I then to give them 2 coats.

If you buy the cheap waterbased paint its best...but you have to filter it.

I would expect that you can use normal paint in those fence sprayers but water it down first. Then spray on a hot afyernoon when the sun has warmed the wood and the water will everopate.

Watch out for whatever is on the other side of the fence. Neighbours will not be happy if you spray their washing/cat/garden furniture/car/paving etc. And make sure the winds not blowing back towards you either

Luckly the other side of the fence is the driveway that leads to our top garages, so the only thing thats going to covered is my hubby tomorrow !!! in his wisdom he decided to fence the garden off to keep the cows and deer out, so he can paint them !!!!

Yeah, they all say that - it's cos they don't see their own mess.

Our neighbours did their fence today. There are freckles all over our garden up to about 8' in from the fence!

I would give it ago with the spray gun if i were you.
Morrison's are selling the sprayers for nine quid each at the moment. I brush painted 6 panels a few years back and it takes much longer than you think!! I thought it would be done in a couple of hours but it took me 8 hours to paint both sides of 6 panels and were soooo boring after the first one. Never again!!
