  • "digging to heaven"

took my little girl(NEARLY6)to the lottie to put the chooks to bed,got sidetracked by a bit of digging which she decided to help with, after several minutes of digging her litle hole she wondered how long it would take to dig to heaven?!we've never really chatted about heaven(plagued myself with a childhood of nightmares re hell)so wondered where she'd got the notion that heaven was underground?her answer was thats where we bury dead people&animals so must be where heaven is!deep down I know it's the start of many a tricky question but for now what a wonderful idea.bless her!BTW.we've already had the "what happens when the last person dies?"&"how did the 1st person get born?"!!my little girl the deep thinker!as long as she doesnt expect mummy to have ALL the answers!?

Ah bless. Its amazing some of the things children come up with.
The greatness comes not when things go always good for you,but the greatness comes when you are really tested, when you take, some knocks, some disappointments;because only if youv'e been in the deepest valley can you ever know how magnificent it is to be on the highest mountain.

Sounds like she has an 'old soul' to me! Gonna be fun watching her grow up and come into her own full potential!

From a pagan perspective, the 'Otherworld / Summerlands' are oft thought to lie underground, and the entrances were usually thought by our ancestors to be through dark water / caves / grave mounds / stone circles or through a concealed entrance amongst the roots of certain sacred trees.

from a Norse perspective, peope do go down when they die, to Hel. She takes those not killed in battle. Although for us non warriors there is always the chance of an invite to one of the gods halls. Freya if you're a bit of a nympho, Thor if a farmer, Frigga if a good mother, Forseti if you are just and true. Odin is reserved for warriors and noblemen. (Freya takes a few warriors too). Then the Norse gods are very fussy on who they take.

From a pagan perspective, the 'Otherworld / Summerlands'
Sorry Mrs Dobby, have to disagree with the term Summerlands, that is more
W(w)iccan than Pagan. Not many Pagans I know would call it Summerlands or even otherworld. Totally depends on the path you walk.

Agreed Starchild, and I prefer the term 'Otherworld' myself, being from a more BTW path than Wicca - tho have been there and done that - but thought that I'd include the term as it is one that many folks of a pagan leaning understand (and many of those not of a pagan faith may have heard of)! Definitely have to agree that its very true, it does depend totally on your own personal path and your own personal experiences!

Norse heathenism is one area I havent yet explored fully, it does interest me, but as my own current path takes me more towards old British practices, those of the local Brigantes tribe and the goddess Breagha (warrior Goddess akin to a more proto British version of the Morrighan), I'm finding what I need personally within that framework!

[QUOTE=Mrs Dobby;241894]Sounds like she has an 'old soul' to me!

I think so bless her;often too old for her shoulders!!think she's gonna be like me when i was young;already philosophises about everything!as if the everyday things(feeding/cleaning/social stuff etc)weren't enough to contend with;they ask tricky questions too!!gets trickier when my beliefs dont fit in with the "norm"ie~if we were practising christian/muslim/hindu/sikh......our beliefs/faith would be respected, yet when daisy says she believes in faeries it's o.k for her to be ridiculed!/or "she'll grow out of it"we're not pagans (although often people presume i am?),but believe in "nature"& "mother earth"&basically what feels right for us,but i find it sad that a religion/faith that has far older roots than any modern day religion is allowed to be ridiculed whereas P.C brigade forbid you to say anything detrimental about modern day(albeit 2000yrs old)religion.apologies for the rant, think it time for bed!!

Lol! Know where you are coming from andi&di! In the last analysis I've always found that what other people think doesnt really matter, as long as what you find works for yourself! We all have our own paths to find, and finding what feels right to you is half the fun of the journey!
