  • cats and hose pipes

We want to set up a wateirng system in the greenhouse which is 50m from the house. We have the hose pipe going across fromt eh tap and then under the conifers all the way then across to the greenhouse. (greenhouse is on opposite side of garden to the tap - typical lol).

The problem I have is that one of the cats LOVES to kill the hose pipe. he attacks it and leaves holes. This means that if we set up the watering system for when we go away it will be leaking geysers all over the place!

Does anyone have this problem? If so how did you get over it? We have found some 'heavy duty' hose pipe but still not sure it would be cat proof. It's quite expensive to keep replacing the hosepipes as it's such a long way to get down the garden.

    Thanks

Don't have the problem - but don't have hoses trailing here and there - so who knows?!

You could try some aversion therapy and have a few washing up liquid bottles full of water about the garden and spray freely every time the little booger goes near the hose! The general moggy doesn't like water - especially jets of it up his proverbial.

What about laying it under some upturned guttering, then weighing it down with a few stones??

I know it's more expense but this works out @ £1 per 10 foot length. Was wondering if the hose could go inside it.

I had the same problem with cats and hoses. Brand new hose, used it for the first and last time as one of my cats stuck it's claws straight through. I now use a heavy duty hose which so far (touch wood) has resisted any attacks. Make sure it not only has the metal wire in but is extra thick.

Thanks all.. doesn't matter if it's more expensive, the irrigation will be a permanent thing and will pay for itself eventually Can't have loads of water being wasted through the holes and watering the patio lol. I will pass the link to OH, think he found something similar in his electronic catalogue.
