  • Carpel Tunnel

Got this in my left wrist now, been to hospital today and I am going to have it operated on as I have had two steroid injections already. He says it will be done under local anesthetic, not b****y likely I would never cope with that. Have opted for GA instead. I am a coward. He said it would be in a few weeks as the waiting list isnt very long.

I won't let them do anything to me under local anaesthetic, because it never works properly! So i don't blame you for going for a GA Hope the op works for you Jackie, carpal tunnel syndrome is miserable.

i'd never have it done under local either, i had a lump removed off my bum last year, and he said he'd never used so much anaesthetic lol ...... i'm sooooo not good with pain

my mum had her carpal tunnel done a few years ago, she says it's great now .....

well it would be if she hadn't had to have her thumb joint replaced ..... twice since then cos she fell and broke it (nowt to do with the carpal tunnel or the op ..... just a clumsy cow )

GA for me every time...I have a highly evolved nervous system which prevents me from sitting still when someone else is about to do something unpleasant to my body.
Don't feel you are a coward..you too are one of the lucky ones to have a more highly evolved body!!

I had the right one done about 11 years ago so I know what I am letting myself in for. The GP said then that it would be done under local anesthetic but when I went for my pre op medical I was glad when they said it would be done under GA.

I dont believe any Doctor or Nurse anymore when they say it 'wont hurt' or 'you wont feel a thing', I remember when I took off the tip of my big toe off, oh we will use a local, you wont feel a thing...............5 minutes later I am being restrained by OH as I wanted to knock doc's block off. Good on ya opting for GA, sweet dreams of veggies.xx

The first on I had done under local, the anaesthtic didn't work What got me as I'm almost leaping of the bed, the nurse said, that's the 3rd one, must be a duff batch!

They wouldn't consider GA at all, so the second, I was a bag of nerves. It went OK until they went rushing off to get the camera to take piccies. Didn't bother to tell me what was going on, finally the nurse explained I had unusual arrangement of 'bits' in my wrist, so I was going to be in a text book. They never asked me if it was OK .

Still the main point is that both worked, and I'm OK now, as long as I don't use the mouse too much.
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

I would prefer the local as I tend to get a bad reaction to GAs, am sick for about 24 hours afterwards even when I've had the anti sickness jab. Really not nice and means that I have to stay in hospital for an extra night when I want to go home.

Re the op, friend of mine had it done on both wrists a few years ago, although they did them one at a time so that she had time to recover in between. She's great now, worked really well.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I'm not allowed GAs unless it's life threatening, or major major operation.

Had to have lumps taken out of my armpit a couple of years ago under local.

It not pleasant to have something done that close to your ear, try raising your arm above your head and see how close the two are and I have very sensitive hearing yuck!!!!

I don't think you are a coward, i had a cyst removed from my forehead as i was starting to look like an extra from star trek!!not quite but you get the picture, they removed it under a LA and just like Lizy drippin i could hear everything, it sounded like he was cutting a piece of gristly bacon, not nice at all. Mind you me being a teacher i had to have a look at what they had taken our afterwards!! He was a bit gobsmacked, revolting but mega interesting.

You are a soft lot! I would have thought you gardening types would be as tuff as nails!

Its all about mind control. I once had a filling done without an injection, now that hurt!
