    camera trouble: white out

    My compact digi camera is suddenly playing up.
    It takes shots outside just fine, and coloured things inside fine.

    The problem is when I try and photograph pale things ... pale blue sheets, pale green shirt, my legs ...I just get "white out" kind of effect.

    I am trying to photo the bruises on my legs, but I can't. Indoors or out, it's so frustrating.

    There's no manual
    and I've been through all the functions. Nothing makes any difference.

    Flash on, flash off, I still get the bleached out effect, where anything pale (green, blue or pink) just looks white.

    Is it on auto white balance? If not, try setting that to auto [you may have inadvertently set it on some other colour].

      Also, blanching can be caused by over exposure so if you have a bright light setting swap it for a night setting.....that might help

        Check:
        the ev settings
        then theWB white balance
        then if they are ok
        Take a photo of something red, then blue, then yellow, then Cyan if you can..then check they match the original....if not you ccd is stuffed.
        Open the Bin and drop camera in and open argos book and buy another.

          Did you have the camera with you on the bike the other day? Might it have received a knock?

          On a seperate note - I now have "Wipe Out" by the Safaris in my head for the journey home.

                If you google the make, the makers might have downloadable instructions.

                      What camera is it? We can download a manual to get you to the settings.

                      Yes, a knock could have caused it but lets keep trying!

                        Sounds daft but try over exposing your shots as when taking snow scenes.

                          If you download "Picasa" from Google you get some very simple-to-use editing programmes for digital photographs. There is one called "fill light" and it is really good for contre jour
                          photographs taken on auto when there is strong backlight - you can get perfect colours from the darkest subjects and, as far as I can remember, you can also remove too much light by moving the slider the other way.                             I've just looked up Picasa and the fill light does not work in reverse, but you could try the "Shadows" or "Colour Temperature" to see if they could help to save your photographs.

                              The CCD is the bit that makes the image...it takes the place of film.
                              On some cameras you can change the EV +/- it changes the exposure...
