  • The boy that broke my heart

Tonight I went to see a very special little boy. His name is Oliver, and he is a 10 month old Boxer, who is also completely deaf.

He was collected by Boxer Dog Resuce Northern England just before Christmas. He is lucky to still be here.

    Here is Oliver

These pictures were taken by the rescue after he'd been in the vets for a week. I can't imagine what state he was in when he was handed to the vets

The details are sketchy, but suffice it to say that he is malnourished, was covered in urine stains and pressure sores and very hand shy.

Tonight I drove to the place where Oliver is staying to take him a fleece coat to wear, a squashy bed and some money towards his food (donations from the collection box in my sisters pet shop) and some biscuits etc for their other rescue dogs. Oliver can be picked up with one hand. He weighs the same as my youngest Boxer did when he was about 3 months old.

Here is Oliver tonight in his new fleece

He is an absolute sweetie. He came and played ball with me, let me tickle him all over and came and sat on my knee on the sofa and went to sleep.

My heart is broken to see a baby Boxer in this state. I drove home crying, and am sat writing this crying. I have seen a good few rescue dogs, but have never met one who is still so happy and cheerful after being starved before being a year old.

I am sure he will flourish into a GREAT dog. Is he going to be yours? Or re-homed somewhere else?

I am constantly amazed at the capacity people have for mistreaing animals, children etc who ask for nothing, didn't ask to be here and don't get the love they deserve..

He looks brill in his coat

Why do some people let their pets suffer like this, in this day and age there is no need however poor you are, lots of places will take them in if you can no longer afford to keep a pet. It makes you wonder if they would do the same to a child or another human being that can not take care of them selves.
Well done you for doing what you did.

                  Poor little thing.
Thank goodness there are people like you and the rescue centre around to help animals like that.
I'm surprised the lad still has the energy to stand up

When I first saw the photo of his head I smiled, thinking a lovely dog photo coming up, then as I scrolled down my jaw just dropped. Can't understand WHY someone would do that?
Are you going to keep him? Sounds like he has a great personality

I hope Oliver gets the home he deserves. After all my years in rescue it still amazes me that people can ignore a dog, often to the point of death. And that mis-treated dogs still come through with tails wagging.
A deaf dog is a bit of a challenge but with time and patience amazing things can be done.
                      Good luck, Oliver!!

Photos like that make me want to inflict violence on the sub-human who "owned" Oliver before. Like Vicky I saw the head and thought aww and then scrolled (sp?) down and saw the poor beast. If OWG is not taking him I'm sure the new owners will be spoiling him rotten and he certainly deserves to see some human kindness.

I hope he finds a good home and the love he deserves. Right thinking people are always apalled when they see such stories but the sad fact is, it is more common than we'd like to believe.

My two hounds get a lot of attention (some would say too much). I can't imagine the kind of low life that would allow this to happen to their dog. I too would like to do them physical harm. Just think, these people could have, or may have in the future, children. Makes you wonder how they might be treated. We humans might be at the top of the evolutionary tree but we've still got a long way to go.
It is the doom of man, that they forget.
