  • Blinds advice

I have a couple of smallish windows in this MQ that lend themselves to blinds - I've only ever done roller blinds before, but this time I want (I think) venetian type thingies.

Any ideas on where to search for such bearing in mind I would rather visit the dentist than walk around shops

Are they standard size windows? You could try Argos or Ikea.

My sis found a woman working through ebay who made up blinds to order using Laura Ashley fabrics - not expensive and the ones she has are really nice. Could do a search for something similar?

we got blinds frm blinds 2 go... online. They will send you swatches of colours and you can get them in any size. Love ours. Have them all over the house (but only at the windows obviously ) Really competitive prices too, and they do every type of blind you can think of

Do you know anyone who is handy with a sewing machine? My mum used to make all our curtains and blinds then she went a tad over board and made covers so the cushions matched. It gives more choice too fabric wise.

By Venetian blinds I am assuming you want the wooden horizontal slatted ones, Piskie. Our local Focus sells those - and if the windows are slightly different sizes, some of them you can cut to fit with a hacksaw. I cut a reeded blind the same way - from the same DIY store.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Oh those ones. I was thinking those frilly ones that look all swaggy when raised.

In terms of fabric blinds the flat fabric ones that pleat up when you pull the cord are Roman blinds - they are a lot simpler and less fussy to look at than the fuller, ruffled ones which are often referred to as Austrian blinds or festoon blinds. Then you get into the realms of swags and tails and all sorts of dustcatchers!
Piskie I think the fabric ones are prolly best ordered online.

We've got vertical blinds downstairs - Hillary's I think we got them.

Venetians are a pain in the bum to clean. We just bung our vertical ones in the washing machine.

We got nice wooden ones from Homebase. I clean them by winding them shut one way and dusting, then winding all the way the other way (makes sense when you use them) and dusting again - not perfect but it works well enough
