    Biggest compliment.

    I had one of the Old Boys come and have a tour of my two plots today.(he'd just offered to lend me his strimmer because I was getting nowhere fast cutting the grass with shears, I said no as there are loads of salsify plants growing and I love their flowers). I know most of them think it's a bit of a mish mash but keep it to themselves.

    This one was really interested in what I'm doing and why, actually left with a few tips and plans on taking them on board on his plots...methods and ideas I've learnt from here.

    As he left, he said what a beautiful garden, without wasting space you've managed to create a fully functioning, yet interesting and pretty garden that looks nothing like a plot.

    Good for you Di! A convert too. Be interesting to see if he changes anything on his plot.

        Aww that's nice, especially coming from a veteran. Our resident veteran is quite open minded too. He's often having a neb and asking me what I'm up to and often has nice things to say about it. Just shows not all the 'old boys' are the steroetypical set in their ways types.

          Well done Di. That's what I love about my job - people come to growing with so many pre-concieved ideas and I show them better/different/timesaving ways of doing it.

          So, we'll have to rotavate then? I'll call the Hire Shop and get one sorted.
          No, just put cardboard down, some grass clippings and plant through.
          Oh.

          So we'll have to dig this then, remove the turf and it's going to be a huge job, no idea where we will store all the turf, shall I order a skip?
          No, we'll put straw down, with some potato fertiliser, and cut the turf around and fold it over for a lazy bed.
          Oh.

          So, we need to put weedkiller down first then, I'll pop over to B&Q and get some.
          No, we smother the weeds, just dig out the perennials if they come through and put them on this tray to dry out in the sun and then compost them.
          Oh.

          Unless there is hard work involved, or machinery, or chemicals - some people don't think it will work.

            Well done Di - isn't it great when someone really appreciates what you're doing. You'll have to put some photos up for us to see.

                Us old farts really like to encourage folks who are starting out especially if it looks as though they are making a good job of it.

                      AP, I'd love to know when I cease to be a new comer...ninth year now!(that's quite scary)

                      The majority of the old boysd are totally supportive....just a little un understanding. To them, a tended plot is one that's dug/planted from top to bottom, not one that has higgledy piggldy beds from start to finish.

                      Considering, my normal comments are 'You're doing well but have a long way to go'...his comments meant the world.
                      I'll try to get some pics...really nothing impressive though. xxx
